A friend of mine and I were having a discussion about this the other day, he feels if Donald Trump was still president of the United States that Russia never would've invaded Ukraine because he feels Biden is a spineless coward, and Russia knows this. My question to you people is this. Do you think that the Russians still would've invaded Ukraine even if Trump was in office? Or do you think Putin never would've dared to do it if Trump was still in office instead of Biden? Please discuss.
One can only guess --- I am not sure if Putin would have waged war on Ukraine if Trump were in the White House. I can state one fact --- The fact is he did not. I think Trump would have handled it differently from the moment Putin started massing troops at the Ukraine border. He always seems to avert problems before they became full-blown. In my view, Biden is always a day late... Russia first deployed troops in significant numbers in early March 2021 to the Ukraine border. In Nov 2021 they further increased troops to number over 125,000.
Trump had a red line in the sand. biden has a yellow stripe doen his back.
No - Putin is after the energy-rich areas of Ukraine. When Trump was in office, energy was trading at much lower levels and with US independence, the impact would have been minimal. This conflict has shown the EU just how volatile they are for depending on Russia, which only has their own best interests at heart.
I would like to think that if it did happen President Donald Trump would have been more aggressive with providing aid for Ukraine.
The war is taking its toll on Ukraine. I just listen to relatives who have experienced horrors I won't write here. I'm also trying to help Ukrainians who come to the US and are trying to deal with language problems and culture shock.
I'm getting to the point where I'm thinking what does it matter? It is what it is in Ukraine. There have been some very graphic images from Ukraine posted in the media. It is all true. I can tell you the stories you are hearing are true. I've heard from relatives as well as Ukrainians who escaped, and it is even more horrible that you are hearing.
It is exhausting. I will say experiencing the fighting spirit of the Ukrainian people does energize me. Almost all of the Ukrainians I have spoken with intend to return to Ukraine. Their attitude is one of "if it is destroyed, we will rebuild it. If we don't have what we need, we will find is some way to get it. Ukraine is our home." Women telling me if they didn't have children to care for, they would have stayed in Ukraine and fought the Russians. The courage and determination I see in them is overwhelming at times.
It is more horrible, one only needs to catch youtube videos before they are removed from citizens with cell phones. The media is not providing the truth.
I have heard many stories from Ukrainians coming from the war area. It is horrible beyond anything you could imagine. It makes me angry more than words can describe. The media has shown a lot of it, but more needs to be shown. War crimes on this scale have not been committed since WWII by Nazi Germany. I don't think most American can grasp the reality of this war. Most Ukrainians had jobs, lives, took their children to school, spent time with family and community. Then, all of a sudden, bombs are landing around them and they have to go to the basement to avoid being blown up. Then, there is the need to leave everything, carry what you can and try to leave with children, elderly, and pets as bombs are going off and gun shots are whizzing past. I was on a zoom call with some relatives when bombing started. They were in shock. Me and other relatives speaking with them were in shock. Luckily, they were able to escape. Not all of this story has a happy ending.
It's very clear the media is lukewarm in reporting the truth about atrocities. I have given up on the media in the US Sorry to say, I find they are too political and pick and choose news that supports their agenda. I think the US is a shell of what it was. We need real change in Washington and more accountable media.
What is happening in Ukraine is Genocide, and our world leaders are willing to gloss over it, and our society is willing to blindly stick their heads in the sand, to keep a psychological comfort level.

The consequences of how this aggression by Putin unfolds are enormous. The worst, of course, is the possibility of nuclear war. The best (which would be negatively consequential to Putin) is that Russia has an epiphany and removes its troops from the Ukrainian border. Any move at...
