    “I’m here because Donald Trump raped me"

    E Jean Carroll, the advice columnist suing Donald Trump for rape, testified on Wednesday in the civil trial of the former president for alleged battery and defamation.

    Carroll, who brought the lawsuit in November, alleges that Trump defamed her in a 2022 Truth Social post by calling her allegations "a Hoax and a lie" and saying "This woman is not my type!" when he denied her claim that Trump raped her in a Bergdorf Goodman department store dressing room.

    She added a charge of battery under a recently adopted New York law that allows adult survivors of sexual abuse to sue their alleged attacker regardless of the statute of limitations.

    Before Carroll took the stand, however, the judge in the case, Lewis A Kaplan, rebuked Trump for an “entirely inappropriate” statement on his social media platform, Truth Social, shortly before proceedings began.

    Kaplan warned the former president’s lawyers that such statements about the case could bring more legal problems upon himself.

          I have to admit, that was kind of dumb to use this as a defense.

    I wouldn't call a "He said, she said" a strong case.  Not in a civil matter from 30 years ago that can only be about money.
