In my last year at school I briefly joined a chess club, but quickly lost interest because I was winning every game; and as a teenager I had a close mate who was good at chess, which made it challenging, but I still won every game, even when I was drunk - so it quickly became pointless.
My final game as a teenager was with a complete stranger who was very good at chess, and sober, and although I was so drunk that I could hardly stand and couldn’t coherently focus on a conversation; I still won him hands down –
But what I did experience in playing chess when drunk is that my mind fully focused on the chess board (like a tunnel vision where I was oblivious to everything else other than the chess board – a most weird experience!
I even bought myself a computer chess board, but I always won the computer – so lost interest.
Thanks! How about tuning up your talent and head out for competitions for a challenge!
I played in middle school (12 - 14 age group), yet it competed with new interests. I became involved with church youth group and boy scouts. Never took it up again.
Pondering the graphic I wonder if discussing or debating while intoxicated gives cause to more open mindedness? Or, maybe not, because I know some mean drunks.
I can’t say that being drunk makes you “more open mindedness”; but it certainly lowers inhibitions and causes people to act stupidly.
I couldn’t “tune up my chess playing talent and head out for competitions for a challenge” because I’m not a competitive person – so I wouldn’t enjoy it: That’s why I never took any interest in sports at school, and why I don’t like watching any sports on TV – It must run in the family because nether my wife nor son are competitive, and nether like sports: Our home is a ‘sports’ free zone!

I've finally decided on a gift for my oldest son. He noticed that I'm selling an old chess set in a yard sale and made a comment. He's in his late 20's, likes medieval history/fantasy. I was thinking about a nice set with medieval figures. Or should I stick with a more traditional set? I've...

Creating a chess board.I have an idea for chess pieces that I hope to start making. I am a little stumped on the board though. I want something easy that I can do without having to have someone build the frame or some other part of the board. I plan to create individual ceramic tiles for the board,...

To those unfamiliar a very popular cartoon was about a coyote trying to nab a roadrunner. A coyote is in the canine family somewhat like a fox or wolf, but not as sophisticated. A roadrunner is a bird that doesn't fly, but scoots along the desert floors. They are very comical cartoons. First the...
