Fivethirtyeight as of Oct 9th polling average has Harris up by +1.0% in Michigan. However the two most recent polls have Trump with an edge.

    Insider Advantage (Harris 46%, Trump 48% = Trump +2) Oct 8-9
    Fabrizio, Lee &  Associates (Harris 48%, Trump 49% = Trump +1) Oct 6-9

Who’s ahead in Michigan? by fivethirtyeight (Oct 10, 2024)
    https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/po … /michigan/

Detroit is in Wayne county with highest voter count for all counties at 1,460,690 or 17% of all Michigan voters.

2016 Trump won Michigan by 0.23%
    2020 Biden won Michigan 2.8%

Michigan electoral college count is 15 votes for 2024

    However,

Trump says the US 'will be like Detroit' if Harris wins and didn't mean it as a compliment by the Detroit Free Press (Oct 10, 2024)
    https://www.freep.com/story/news/politi … 614308007/

"Republican former President Donald Trump, speaking Thursday to the Detroit Economic Club at the Motor City Casino, bashed Michigan's largest city at a time when longtime residents and many national commentators alike consider Detroit to be on an upswing.

In a long, rambling speech, Trump went on at length about the threat he believes is posed to the U.S. if Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee, is elected in the Nov. 5 general election. At one point, after talking about trade, he veered into comments about the U.S. and its alliance with European countries in NATO, or the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, and what they contribute to the group.

He then abruptly said he didn't think that concern would be "high on her list," referring to Harris.

"I don't think anything that we're talking about today is high on her list," Trump continued. "The whole country is going to be like, you want to know the truth? It'll be like Detroit. Our whole country will end up being like Detroit if she's your president. You're going to have a mess on your hands."

Speculatively, did Trump alienate the Detroit and/or Michigan swing voters?

    Thoughts, criticisms, accolades, and/or commentary?

We all recognize the "dog whistle" when we hear it, it is not just heard by the dogs that it was designed to alert.

Black voters and urban dwellers in Detroit knew what he meant and should be justifiably incensed.

He made similar disparaging comments about Milwaukee. I can expect that he will attack Philly and Atlanta in a similar way.

Don't need Sherlock Holmes to identify a loathsome pattern. Such an utterly stupid and crass person, this Donald Trump.
Blatant and stark racism back in style, how am I supposed to support this?

One representative agrees with you, Cred as quoted from the article . . .

"As to the idea of the rest of the U.S. becoming like Detroit, state Rep. Tyrone Carter, D-Detroit, told the Free Press, “I think that would be a wonderful thing for the rest of the country.”

Carter — who chairs the Detroit Caucus in the Michigan Legislature — suspects Trump’s comment was a dig at the city’s majority-Black population. “I’m sure there are some racial overtones or undertones or side tones to that,” he said.

I would have to say that there don't seem to be any from Trump...but that there surely is from Carter!

Yes, this is true, I have to step back sometimes and ignore the "he-haw" reasoning of certain groups of people....

The black part sounds far more like Credence than Trump.  But the rest of it?  Do residents of that cesspool simply pretending their city is in fine shape, beautiful parkland without slums and graffiti?  My friends in Portland Or. do that even as we walk through streets filled with trash and the homeless.  As we pass by boarded up businesses from the riots there they go on about how vibrant the city is, growing all the time.

It's rather sad - how can such a mess be cleaned up if we just look the other way and pretend all is fine?

A mess? Just a quick look and I can see that Detroit crime rates are at a 40-year low, housing prices are rising and investments in the actual City growing.   Moody's recently upgraded Detroit from bankruptcy to investment grade.    Why wasn't any of this focused on? Seems a bit of a success story to me.  Trump's comments, yet again, are ignorant.  A lot of us wish that he would stop sh*t talking our country.

So, I guess Milwaukee and Philadelphia are a mess as well? Funny that this and other urban areas were in Trumps crosshairs because they were responsible for his losing their respective states in 2020. But since Boise wasn't on the list, you wouldn't know much about that now would you?

Trump accentuates the negative of this and any other urban areas as a threat purely because of their ethnic diversity and their residents being smart enough not to vote for Trump. Why would the people that struggle to improve things in these communities not take offense?

The man remains a first class jerk......
