Trump and On the Job Training

There is a reason that Trump’s policies are whip sawing the markets.  One day the market is up, the next day it’s down. He levies tariffs on world markets, except for Russia. He places 145% tariffs on China.  The next day he exempts tariffs on all electronics coming from China. Some may call it a strategy.  I call it On the Job Training on my dime. In my view, he doesn’t know what he is doing and neither do his advisors. As far as I know China hasn’t lifted their 125% tariffs on us. Who is the winner here?

Now he is dismantling FEMA by making members take lie detector tests. What an irony, he holds the trophy for the biggest liar in the world.

He or whomever is advising him doesn’t realize how our country’s storms have become severe and there are thousands of people who need their properties repaired. I guess, he thinks he can leave it up to the states.

The bottom line is, I’m tired of his On the Job Training and we still have almost four more years of this. He and his cohorts are already campaigning for a third term…God help us.

The critique of Trump’s policies often focuses on the volatility of the markets, especially when it comes to tariffs and international trade. While it’s true that tariffs on China, especially those like the 145% on certain products, can create uncertainty, it’s important to consider that these moves are part of a broader strategy aimed at addressing longstanding trade imbalances and forcing China to engage in fairer practices.

However, your comment overlooks the possibility that Trump's decision to exempt Russia from tariffs, despite his generally aggressive stance on trade, could actually be a strategic attempt to use the threat of tariffs as leverage in his diplomatic efforts, particularly in relation to the Ukraine war.

By not applying tariffs to Russia, Trump may be positioning himself to exert greater pressure on them through negotiations, offering the potential for sanctions to be imposed or lifted based on peace talks or de-escalation. The ultimate goal may be to avoid worsening the conflict by introducing measures that would exacerbate economic tensions or hinder diplomatic negotiations.

On the flip side, the charge of "On the Job Training" implies a lack of direction, but it could also be an intentional tactic of unpredictability designed to keep adversaries uncertain about U.S. positions. This approach may seem chaotic to some, but it could be viewed as a deliberate form of negotiation where flexibility and leverage are prioritized over consistency. Critics argue that this volatility harms long-term economic stability, but for some, the unpredictability might signal a break from the standard diplomatic and economic protocols, a shift towards a more aggressive, results-driven approach to trade and international relations.

The dismantling of FEMA and the mention of lie detector tests point to concerns about competence and accountability in government agencies. While this move may appear harsh or unnecessary, the broader context is crucial. If FEMA’s effectiveness is under scrutiny, especially as climate change leads to more frequent natural disasters, Trump's administration may see this as an attempt to root out inefficiency or corruption within the agency. Critics, however, may view this as an overreach, particularly considering the complexity and scale of disaster response efforts, which often involve multiple levels of government coordination and resources.

So, while Trump's policies may appear erratic to some, there is often a more nuanced or strategic reasoning behind them, particularly in the realms of international relations and internal reform. His methods may be unconventional, but they reflect an approach to governance that seeks to disrupt the status quo and challenge entrenched systems. Of course, the question remains whether this approach will lead to lasting success or merely contribute to ongoing uncertainty.
