This is all the left has now.  Political stunts to get seen on social media.  It's the only way they are getting any kinds of attention.  More proof the left has lost their minds.  democrats do this because they have no message and only know how to be wildly unpopular.

"Video shows lefty NJ reps ‘storm’ Newark ICE facility housing MS-13 members in ‘bizarre political stunt’

Two Dem reps from New Jersey were caught on video “storming” a Newark immigration detention site last week, with one seen elbowing her way past ICE agents in an alleged “bizarre political stunt.”

North Jersey Reps. Robert Menendez, Jr. and LaMonica McIver were among the protesters who turned up demanding the closure of the Delaney Hall Detention Center, which houses criminal illegal migrants with alleged MS-13 gang affiliation and wanted for crimes ranging from rape to murder.

Video provided to Fox News by the Department of Homeland Security shows Menendez and McIver in an angry confrontation with ICE agents at a security checkpoint.

McIver is seen shouting in the agents’ faces and attempting to elbow her way past them to get through the facility gates.

“Members of Congress storming into a detention facility goes beyond a bizarre political stunt and puts the safety of our law enforcement agents and detainees at risk,” DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin wrote in a statement shortly after the incident.

“Members of Congress are not above the law and cannot illegally break into detention facilities. Had these members requested a tour, we would have facilitated a tour of the facility. This is an evolving situation.”

McLaughlin told The Hill after the scuffle that arresting the three reps was “definitely on the table.”

“We actually have body camera footage of some of these members of Congress assaulting our ICE enforcement officers, including body-slamming a female ICE officer, so we will be showing that to viewers very shortly,” McLaughlin said.

Democratic Newark Mayor Ras Baraka also took part in the protest and was slapped in cuffs after he trespassed, federal officials said.

Menendez, speaking on CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday, said the fact that the confrontation escalated was the fault of immigration officials.

“There were so many instances where this could’ve all been de-escalated, but it was squarely in [Homeland Security Investigations], ICE’s court — they chose not to,” Menendez told CNN host Dana Bash. “They made this a violent scene that we were unfortunately all a part of.”

You do realize that they were  exercising their legal oversight authority?  Members of Congress are  allowed under the appropriations act to enter DHS facilities without prior notice. the mayor that was arrested was actually physically OUTSIDE the gates of the facility

Yes, oversight doesn't mean you show up unexpected and try to storm the facility.

democrat representatives have such little class and dignity.

Should they have wanted to enter the facility they could've asked to speak with the facility manager.  Instead they decided to put on a show for the media by trying to force their way into the facility.

That is ALL that is was...a show for the media.

democrats have nothing to offer the American people.  Now, they're down to putting on media stunts for attention.

The democrat party is getting more sad by the day.

Maybe it is my poor reading comprehension but I do not recall them being granted the authority to use assault against agents of DHS. If that person was civilized she could have backed up, taken her complaint to a judge, and been granted access to that facility. Bodyslamming an ICE agent is generally frowned upon, but I guess since you supported the J6 protests you consider going into federal buildings okay?
The mayor has already had the charges dropped. He was taken outisde the facility because when they tried to do it inside the congresspeople interfered.

The charges allege that McIver "slammed" her forearm into an ICE agent and also made physical contact with a Homeland Security Investigations agent.

PREDICTION: McIver will be acquitted on all charges or the charges are completely dropped.

MAGA will then blame the judge and/or jury...

Yes, Newark Mayor Ras Baraka was arrested during a protest at the Delaney Hall immigration detention center in Newark, New Jersey. He was charged with misdemeanor trespassing after attempting to join a congressional oversight visit with several Democratic lawmakers. However, the charge was later dropped by Acting U.S. Attorney Alina Habba. So thus far we have only one charged,  Rep. LaMonica McIver (D-NJ) will face criminal charges for her alleged actions during a confrontation with law enforcement outside a Newark immigration detention center earlier this month.

“Today my office has charged Congresswoman McIver with violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 111(a)(1) for assaulting, impeding and interfering with law enforcement,” acting New Jersey US Attorney Alina Habba announced Monday." NYP

"You do realize that they were  exercising their legal oversight authority?  Members of Congress are  allowed under the appropriations act to enter DHS facilities without prior notice. " Willow

Yes, you're correct that Members of Congress have legal oversight authority and are allowed under the appropriations act to enter DHS facilities without prior notice. That part isn’t in dispute. But let’s not lose sight of the actual issue here: this woman wasn't charged for exercising oversight; she was charged because she allegedly assaulted a law enforcement officer.

Oversight authority doesn’t grant anyone the right to break the law or engage in violence. No one is above the law, period. When we start justifying unlawful behavior based on political affiliation or perceived moral high ground, we risk unraveling the very foundation of a just society. Laws must be applied equally, regardless of politics.

It’s also evident that there are videos of the protest and the altercation. This woman will have her day in court, and like anyone else accused of a crime, she’s entitled to due process. I trust our legal system to weigh the evidence fairly and come to the right conclusion. That’s how justice works, not through partisan spin or selective outrage, but through facts, law, and accountability.

          Shar,

I shouldn't be surprised that no democrat is angry at the behavior of these elected democrat officials.  They are the party of the mob mentality.  From antifa, to the George Floyd riots, to the attacks of Teslas and more, violence and mob justice is the democrats way of doing things.

It is a shame that elected democrat representatives have such little class and dignity to act this way and put on a show for the country to watch.  They didn't want to conduct Congressional oversight, they wanted to put on a show for the cameras and that is what they did.

It is a shame what the democrat party has become.

They have done this to themselves.

The difference is, no one here ignored the fact that laws were broken. I can't recall a single post that claimed, “They had the right to protest,” while turning a blind eye to the carnage that occurred.

Your statement was clear, and the context was clear, but you didn’t acknowledge that these three individuals broke the law. You completely ignored the other side of the coin. Why?

You’re deflecting from the issue. My original comment was about the people who post on this forum. The important distinction is that no one here has ignored the fact that laws were broken on January 6th. I haven’t seen a single post denying that reality or claiming, “They had the right to protest,” while turning a blind eye to the violence and destruction that occurred.

Your point was clear, and I understood your context, but you completely failed to acknowledge that this Congresswoman has been charged with assaulting a law enforcement officer. Instead of addressing that, you focused on her supposed right to be there and enter the building.

By doing so, it comes across as if you’re excusing her alleged actions simply because she believed she had the right to be there, as if that somehow justifies or outweighs the fact that she’s been charged with a serious offense. That’s what I was calling out: your decision to ignore the criminal charge and shift the focus elsewhere.  There are two sides to this issue, yes, she had a right to be at that center, and to enter the building--- she had no right to become aggressive and push, shove, and yes, slug an officer, as my link clearly shows her doing.

Some research on the reasoning is that the J6 defendants were pardoned because they were denied due process.  liberals and democrat are quick to fight for the due process rights of illegal aliens.  When it comes to American Citizens, especially those who do things they don't like, they could care less about due process.

"An egregious denial of due process for Jan. 6 protesters

For more than two years, while they controlled every lever of power in Washington, the Democratic Party and their media allies told a one-sided story about what happened at the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

For more than two years, the surveillance footage from the 2021 Capitol riot, aired this week by Tucker Carlson, was kept from the American public by a Democratic Congress so a false narrative became cemented in the public consciousness.

For more than two years, footage that could have exonerated Jan. 6 defendants was kept from their legal teams.

People are in prison because of that cover-up.

Take the footage aired by Carlson Monday night of so-called “QAnon Shaman” Jacob Chansley being escorted around the Capitol by police officers who help him open the door and enter the empty Senate chamber.

It is hard to reconcile these calm and even cordial scenes with the nearly four-year prison sentence Chansley now is serving for “obstructing an official proceeding.”

Contrary to what apologists have been saying since Carlson began airing the footage, all this material has not previously been made available to the J6 defendants, some of whom have been jailed without trial for two years, in violation of their constitutional right to a fair and speedy trial.

                  Grounds for appeal
New York lawyer Joseph McBride, one of the few heroes of this ugly saga, represents six J6 defendants and says a significant proportion of the 41,000 hours of surveillance footage House Speaker Kevin McCarthy released to Carlson was kept from his clients and should give them “grounds for appeal.”

Chansley lawyer Bill Shipley, also told Fox News legal analyst Jonathan Turley that his defense team “did not have this material.”

McBride says the J6 committee’s deceptions and pejorative comments about “MAGA Republicans” from President Biden “have poisoned the DC jury pool beyond repair,” which also is grounds for appeal.

“It is egregious the way these people have been treated, for as much as two years pretrial, before any finding of fact. When people find out what has been going on in the DC gulag, it is going to shock the American conscience forever,” the lawyer said.

A new book about the J6 prisoners, “Due Process Denied,” tells a tale of hell in the Washington, DC, “gulag,” the Central Detention Facility in southeast Washington where most have been housed.

Cynthia Hughes writes poignantly of one defendant who committed suicide rather than go back to jail.

The defendants have been kept in a separate unit with mold on the walls, brown water and generally unsanitary conditions, are subjected to 23 hours a day of solitary confinement, denied adequate food, medical treatment and religious services.

Their only solace is that every night at 9 p.m., they gather to sing the national anthem.

Hughes is a New Jersey mother of four, the aunt of a J6 prisoner and founder of a nonprofit organization, Patriot Freedom Project, which helps the families, who in many cases have lost their breadwinner, and help contribute to their legal defense.

She says every other legal defense fund has turned their back on these pariahs.

“Children have endured their homes being torn apart” in FBI dawn raids, she writes. “These people who are supposed to protect them putting their daddy in handcuffs and dragging him out of his home. This is the last image they have of their fathers, as these men have been imprisoned with no access to visits for over a year.”

She points out that “the majority of Jan. 6 defendants in the DC jail were active or reservist military or veterans” and she describes a horrific scene on Veterans Day 2021.

“There was a dispute over a mask between a female guard and a Jan. 6 detainee. This female guard became so enraged with the detainee because he wouldn’t wear a mask that she unloaded several cans of Mace . . . and filled the entire pod with fumes. She had a gas mask on, but the men were dropping to their knees and several of them were taken out on stretchers.”

The Capitol riot was ugly and the behavior of those who attacked police was shameful.

But that does not justify this unjust and cruel treatment, and the lengthy pretrial detention of nonviolent defendants.

For more than two years, the deplorables who went to Washington, DC, that day have been vilified and demonized as domestic terrorists and, absurdly, white supremacists.

They are all guilty until proven innocent, even if they did not enter the Capitol that day.

Nancy Pelosi lied that Trump supporters had defecated all over the House floor.

There is no evidence that any such thing happened.

“There’s defecation and all that kind of thing . . . It could take time to clean up the poo-poo that they’re making all over,” Pelosi said gleefully in a video from the day released by the J6 committee. Just another casual defamation.

Pelosi engineered the J6 committee to her political advantage.

It had access to the surveillance footage and deliberately withheld the truth from the American people about what happened inside the Capitol that day.

Democrats cherry-picked footage and tailored the evidence to support their political witch hunt.

Their show trials were designed to “Give Democrats a Chance to Recast Midterm Message,” as The New York Times declared.

Mike, I find it a complete diversion to ignore the fact that laws were broken, and instead prop up the offenders by claiming, “They had the right to be there and enter that detention center.” That kind of thinking is a classic example of deflection or moral justification—shifting focus away from the clear violation of the law to some perceived higher right.

It’s the same kind of logic we saw during the so-called “Summer of Love” riots: billions in property damage, a police station burned, and multiple lives lost. Yet I remember people defending those riots by saying, “They have the right to protest,” as if that somehow excused the destruction and chaos. It's like the human cost and criminal behavior just flew right over their heads.

This is a mindset I’ve sadly grown used to. In my view, this kind of self-righteous indignation is an embarrassment to our country. Yes, these three lawbreakers wanted attention—and they got it. I was glad to hear Trump address the incident directly and remind everyone: “This kind of crap will not be tolerated any longer.” I found not have said it better.

Hopefully, that kind of clarity will start to put an end to these foolish, performative stunts.

  2. Sharlee01 profile image84
    Sharlee01posted 5 days ago

Mike, in my view, whether you're on the left or the right, we should all be able to agree that public officials have a duty to conduct themselves professionally, especially during oversight visits. If Members of Congress or local officials have legitimate concerns about conditions at a detention facility, they absolutely have the right to investigate. But that doesn’t excuse aggressive or disorderly behavior, particularly when it puts others at risk.

That said, let’s not pretend this kind of stunt is unique to the Democratic Party. We’ve seen grandstanding from them for years, politicians looking to score points online or rile up their base. The video showing physical altercations and ICE officers being shoved offers clear proof of what took place. It’s serious and should be addressed accordingly. Oversight doesn’t mean immunity from the law.

The bottom line: there’s a way to protest and investigate without escalating into chaos. Public trust is lost when our leaders can’t control themselves, regardless of the cause they’re championing. In this case, they made complete fools of themselves.

LaMonica McIver was charged with assaulting federal officers at an immigration detention facility in Newark.

You're absolutely right, and the incident involving Congresswoman LaMonica McIver only adds fuel to the fire. During what was supposed to be a routine inspection of an immigration detention facility, McIver ended up in a physical confrontation with federal officers. The whole ugly incident was caught on film, there’s no denying what happened. And yet, instead of owning up to it, she’s crying and trying to spin the narrative as if she's the victim.

It’s a textbook case of hypocrisy. Democrats are always the first to shout from the rooftops that “no one is above the law, until it’s one of their own caught red-handed. Then suddenly, the narrative shifts to “political persecution” or “racial targeting.” But in this case, the video evidence speaks for itself. It clearly shows exactly what happened during the confrontation. In fact, it showed more than McIver probably wanted, including a moment where her large stomach became exposed as she physically lunged at the officer. The footage leaves little room for spin or excuses, this wasn’t a misunderstanding or a targeted smear. It was an elected official behaving in a way that no public servant should, and now she’s trying to play the victim card to dodge responsibility

The law didn’t go after McIver based on politics or race, it acted because her behavior crossed the line. Plain and simple.

To claim victimhood while the facts are on full display just shows how far some Democrats are willing to go to dodge accountability. It sends a dangerous message: if you have the right party affiliation or the right buzzwords, maybe the rules don’t apply. That’s not justice, that’s privilege masquerading as activism. And the American people are seeing through it.

I am satisfied that our legal system worked this time around.

The democrats always chant that nobody is above the law...except if it's a democrat who has broken the law...then it's important to realize democrats believe THEY are above the law and should never face any legal consequences.

Guess what?  democrats need to learn they really aren't above the law no matter what they believe.

"Dem Rep. LaMonica McIver charged over chaotic Newark ICE detention center protest, Mayor Ras Baraka’s dismissed, US Attorney Alina Habba announces

Rep. LaMonica McIver (D-NJ) will face criminal charges for her alleged actions during a confrontation with law enforcement outside a Newark immigration detention center earlier this month.

“Today my office has charged Congresswoman McIver with violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 111(a)(1) for assaulting, impeding and interfering with law enforcement,” acting New Jersey US Attorney Alina Habba announced Monday.

McIver was among several Democratic lawmakers involved in a chaotic scene that unfolded outside the Delaney Hall Detention Center on May 9, which resulted in the arrest of Democratic Newark Mayor Ras Baraka for allegedly trespassing on the facility that contracts with Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Habba indicated that she gave McIver “every opportunity” to avoid being charged.

“I have persistently made efforts to address these issues without bringing criminal charges and have given Representative McIver every opportunity to come to a resolution, but she unfortunately declined,” Habba said.

“No one is above the law – politicians or otherwise,” the US attorney continued. “It is the job of this office to uphold justice impartially, regardless of who you are.”

“Now we will let the justice system work.”

McIver, who has represented the Garden State’s 10th Congressional District since September 2024, slammed the charges as “purely political” and blamed ICE agents for the confrontation.

“Earlier this month, I joined my colleagues to inspect the treatment of ICE detainees at Delaney Hall in my district. We were fulfilling our lawful oversight responsibilities, as members of Congress have done many times before, and our visit should have been peaceful and short. Instead, ICE agents created an unnecessary and unsafe confrontation when they chose to arrest Mayor Baraka,” McIver said in a statement.

“The charges against me are purely political — they mischaracterize and distort my actions, and are meant to criminalize and deter legislative oversight,” the congresswoman added. “This administration will never stop me from working for the people in our district and standing up for what is right.

“I am thankful for the outpouring of support I have received, and I look forward to the truth being laid out clearly in court.”

Democratic New Jersey Reps. Robert Menendez Jr. and Bonnie Watson Coleman, who were present with McIver when the scrum at the gates to the detention center took place, have also previously blamed federal law enforcement for the fracas.

The citizens of New Jersey deserve unified leadership so we can get to work to keep our state safe.”

Baraka said in a statement that he was “glad” Habba dismissed the charges against him and that he expects to meet with the US attorney soon to discuss areas of cooperation.

“I am glad that the US Attorney has agreed that this case should be dismissed,” the mayor said. “I have had strong relationships with prior US Attorneys, and I plan to speak with the current US Attorney about issues on which we can cooperate.”

“As to Delaney Hall, I will continue to advocate for the humane treatment of detainees, and I will continue to press the facility to ensure that it is compliant with City of Newark codes and regulations,” Baraka added.

Describing McIver as a “daughter of Newark” and “dear friend,” the mayor declared that he expects the congresswoman to be “vindicated.”

“I want to be clear: I stand with LaMonica, and I fully expect her to be vindicated,” Baraka said.

Who here has expressed support for January 6th, the violence that occurred, or the assault on officers? From what I’ve seen, no one in this thread has defended what happened that day or denied that officers were harmed. I clearly remember how people on this forum responded at the time, no one supported the riot, and everyone was saddened by the violence and those injured.

As individuals, we’re not obligated to rehash January 6th, especially in a thread focused on a congresswoman allegedly assaulting law enforcement.

You often steer discussions back to Trump, maybe without realizing it, but it’s noticeable. Of course, you’re free to bring up Trump or any topic you believe is relevant. But why not start a separate thread for those discussions? In my view, shifting the focus like that tends to disrupt the flow of the original conversation.
