FOOLISH LIBS TAKE THE BAIT by Geoffrey Ingersoll, Editor at Large (Aug 12, 2025)
Just hours after an ABC News anchor said on air that she had been “jumped” two blocks from their offices and that a coworker’s car had been stolen that morning, ABC’s nightly news anchor, David Muir, kicked to a segment about “crime stats” and “what they actually show.”
In case you missed it yesterday, Donald Trump announced “Liberation Day II.” Instead of trade, the highly anticipated sequel would take on crime in the nation’s capital. Trump federalized DC’s Metro Police and deployed 800 National Guard.
The response from libs was both overwhelming and overwhelmingly dumb. It was also note-for-note identical to previous reactions they’ve had to Trump saying obviously true things.
A few examples:
- Trump says we shouldn’t castrate gender-confused kids, libs say the practice is “evidence based,” lists off cooked studies.
- Trump says COVID came from a lab, libs say actually it came from Chinese people eating red-striped raccoon dogs and here’s more cooked “studies” to prove it.
- Trump says illegal immigration is a crisis, libs say what illegal immigration, what crisis? Also illegal immigration is good, see these pro immigration “studies”.
- Trump says inflation is going to crush the middle class, libs say inflation is “transitory” and actually probably good, more totally gamed “studies”.
When it comes to crime in DC, the tune is playing out almost identically. X was awash in DC locals recounting their personal experiences with crime. In the same breath, the liberal bourgeoisie – think tankers, talking heads, journalists – insisted “crime stats” showed violent crime falling to a “30-year low.”
We’re at a 30-year low! They shout as the historic Union Station right next to Congress is visibly overtaken by vagrants, drug addicts and criminals.
At this point, I’ll say something else that’s obvious: When people who insist on not prosecuting crimes tell you crime has fallen, don’t believe them.
And there’s plenty of reason not to believe the stats. The local Fraternal Order of Police accused a DC police commander of cooking them just a few months ago.
In a rare moment of clarity, one of CNN’s own pollsters said liberals should drop the “crime stats” act.
“What’s striking is that … national Democrats have been insisting, ‘just look at the statistics. We have 30-year, 30-year low, you know, violent crime’ … I’ve talked to Democrat strategists today that think that, you know, national Democrats saying, ‘look at the statistics,’ is sort of a tone deaf way to react,” said Axios’s Alex Thompson on CNN.
“And it’s very much — isn’t this the exact same problem that Democrats had last year?” exclaimed Echelon Insights pollster Kristen Soltis Anderson. “‘Look at the statistics! We promise you the economy is great’ while people are going, ‘it doesn’t feel great to me.’ That feels like a lot of this conversation around crime that you can point to statistics all day long that say, ‘hey, D.C. is safer this year than it was last year,’ but do people feel safe? Bottom line, if they don’t, they may be more okay with something that would otherwise be considered extraordinary.”
Will they listen? Probably not. They staged a gathering last night to “bang pots and pans” to protest Trump’s “authoritarian” crime measures.
A few blocks from where they were protesting, someone was shot and killed.
What universe are these people occupying right now? Because it isn’t the one most normal people call home.
Mike Solana of Pirate Wires summed the dissonance up perfectly, in my opinion.
“This puts ‘Liberation Day’ squarely in the sort of legal gray area Trump excels at exploiting, and pressures Democrats to take the other side of yet another generally popular idea far outside the coastal lib Overton Window — in this case, stopping crime,” Solana wrote.
I don’t need to cite any studies or statistics. I also don’t need a crystal ball to tell you what the outcome of this will be if Democrats continue being the anti-crime fighting party.
The midterms are right around the corner. Who do you think will win, the folks doing something about crime, or the folks saying crime doesn’t exist?
Thoughts, accolades, criticisms, and/or commentary?
Didn't the NY Governor deploy the National Guard to the Subways of NY City?
When stores are being looted and people being assaulted is that supposed to be allowed?
Well even in a uber-Leftist State like NY they try and keep some Law and Order.
Not much, obviously, but enough to keep it from appearing totally Apocalyptic.
"Didn't the NY Governor deploy the National Guard to the Subways of NY City?"
The key word is governor...
Have you been to any rural areas of the Mississippi Delta or Louisiana??
My God... Third World stuff...
Maybe these poor folk are more worthy of a government takeover?
THIS IS AMERICA...
Thanks for chiming in, Ken. Yup, you're right back in Mar 2024 NY city did call in the guard.
And DC is not a State... so its within his jurisdiction to do so.
Historically, it was never intended for there to be a mayor and city council.
It was put in by the Congress in the 70's. With the contingency that if they deem it so the President or Congress could take the District (not state) back over when required to restore order.
The problem resides... as we have discussed elsewhere... people have differing ideas of what Law and Order is, what Reality is...
Some people think it is the right of ______ [fill in the blank] to loot stores and assault people, because of their place on the totem pole of victimhood and being oppressed... while other people think if you rob a store or assault someone you should be shot, dead, on the spot.
Some people believe all police should be defunded and lawlessness should rule (a growing theme on the Left) while others believe people should be punished for their crimes and Police should enforce the law.
I suspect there is far less of the nonsense seen in places like DC or NY here in Florida, because here in Florida it is known that the State and most local Authorities support you shooting/killing someone who assaults you in your home or business... and that goes a long way to deterring most criminals, not knowing who is just itching to put a bullet between their eyes.
"Democrats continue being the anti-crime fighting party."
Talk about a sweeping generalization. tsmog! I would have expected more from you.
But if folks fall for this latest distraction from all the outrageous actions of this administration and our feckless congress' willingness to look the other way, then those very enablers will get re-elected. Which, as always, is what this is all about.
President Donald Trump is the only leader on either side of the isle with the courage and determination to protect citizens from criminals. Democrats always support the criminals.
In 2024, Washington, D.C. saw a homicide rate of 27.3 per 100,000 residents.
That was the fourth-highest homicide rate in the country — nearly six times higher than New York City and also higher than Atlanta, Chicago, and Compton.
If Washington, D.C. was a state, it would have the highest homicide rate of any state in the nation.
In 2012, the homicide rate in Washington, D.C. was just 13.9 per 100,000 residents.
Washington, D.C.’s murder rate is roughly three times higher than that of Islamabad, Pakistan, and 18 times higher than that of communist-run Havana, Cuba.
The number of juveniles arrested in Washington, D.C., has gone up each year since 2020 — many of whom have had prior arrests for violent crimes.
There were 29,348 crimes reported in Washington, D.C. last year, including 3,469 violent offenses, 1,026 assaults with a dangerous weapon, 2,113 robberies, and 5,139 motor vehicle thefts.
So far in 2025, there have already been nearly 1,600 violent crimes and nearly 16,000 total crimes reported in Washington, D.C.
There have been nearly 100 homicides, including the fatal shootings of innocent civilians like three-year-old Honesty Cheadle and 21-year-old Capitol Hill intern Eric Tarpinian-Jachym.
Vehicle theft in Washington, D.C. is more than three times the national average — ranking it among the most dangerous cities in the world.
Carjackings increased 547% between 2018 and 2023.
In 2024, there were triple the number of carjackings compared to 2018.
These statistics are not only troubling on their own, but they also likely significantly understate the level of crime in Washington, D.C.
Metro Police Department leadership are allegedly cooking the books to make crime statistics appear more favorable.
Many residents don’t feel safe reporting crime.
More than half of all violent crime in the U.S. goes unreported in the first place.
WUSA-TV: “D.C. residents voice frustration over rising violence, questioning police stats and demanding real action to make neighborhoods feel safe again.”
If the Republicans cared about violent crime, they'd be asking trump why he can weaponize the military now but he couldn't call in the National Guard on January 6, 2021....
They arrested a guy and charged him with a felony for throwing a sandwich at one of trump's brown shirts...
Dear leader disagrees with you...LOL THIS DIDN'T AGE WELL DID IT??

Interesting,
These stats came directly from the White House.
I think stats are more accurate right now.
Crime in Washington DC is out of control. That is not in dispute.
"Crime in Washington DC is out of control. That is not in dispute."
You'll need to provide unbiased stats for that.... Like any of us would believe ANYTHING coming out of this White House... I mean your guy said crime was down in DC last year... That was accurate, why are you going against what he said??
One more reason it is difficult to take the left serious.
"DC paid protester requests surge 400% amid Trump’s federal takeover of city police: crowd company
CEO says vast majority of political event attendees in Washington are paid in some way
A crowd rental company has seen a massive uptick in inquiries regarding its services in Washington, D.C., amid President Donald Trump's move to federalize the police force in the nation's capital.
"Right now, D.C. inquiries are up roughly 400% compared to the same period in 2024," Crowds on Demand CEO Adam Swart told Fox News Digital, adding that the time period he is referencing is May to July 2024.
The company always sees a spike in requests during what Swart calls "high-stakes political moments."
"A large share are focused on opposing Trump’s policies in Washington and raising alarms about government overreach," Swart said. "We’re weighing those offers carefully – because while there’s truth in saying D.C.’s local government has been an abject failure in keeping citizens safe, there’s also a real danger in putting too much power in federal hands. That balance of power matters."
Swart said the "vast majority" of people at political or advocacy events in D.C. are in some way paid.
"Most people don't know this, but many protesters are literally on the payroll – Capitol Hill staffers from both parties are often expected to show up at rallies and protests on their own time," he said. "So yes, most attendees are being paid or are there because it’s part of their job. That doesn’t mean they don’t support the cause – but it does mean these crowds aren’t as ‘organic’ as they appear on TV."

To hear trump tell it, the nation's murder problem is particularly bad in New York City, Chicago, Baltimore, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C. — Democratic-run cities in Democratic-led states (or district, in D.C.'s case).
New FBI crime figures from 2024 tell a different story.
The big picture: 13 of the 20 U.S. cities with the highest murder rates were in Republican-run states. Many of those cities were run by Democrats who often are at odds with state officials, an Axios analysis of FBI data finds.
State of play: The nation's homicide rate dropped to 5 per 100,000 residents in 2024 — a rate not seen since the Obama era, when overall violent crime rates were hovering around 30-year lows.
Many cities, including those with the highest murder rates, saw declines in homicides. Crime remains a significant concern, but Trump's criticism of big, Democrat-led cities in blue states tells only part of the story.
By the numbers: Eight of the top 10 cities with the highest murder rates and populations of at least 100,000 were in red states — Mississippi, Alabama, Missouri, Tennessee, Ohio and Louisiana, Axios found.
Jackson, Miss., had the nation's highest homicide rate— nearly 78 per 100,000 residents, more than 15 times the national average.
Birmingham, Ala., was second with a homicide rate of almost 59 per 100,000 residents — more than 11 times the national average.
St. Louis was third, followed by Memphis, Tenn.
Zoom out: Six of the next 10 cities with the highest homicide rates were in Republican-run Georgia, Ohio, Indiana and Alabama, along with Virginia and Kentucky, whose state governments are politically divided.
Why don't you folks care about these places???

It is exhausting discussing things with the left. The level of knowledge of history and the law is severely lacking. I don't respond to many things because it would take too long to put things in perspective.
I think you need to understand Washington DC is NOT a state.
It is a district. It is under the control of the US Congress.
The U.S. Constitution in 1789 called for the creation of a federal district under exclusive jurisdiction of the U.S. Congress. As such, Washington, D.C., is not part of any state, and is not one itself. The Residence Act, adopted on July 16, 1790, approved the creation of the capital district along the Potomac River. The city was founded in 1791, and the 6th Congress held the first session in the unfinished Capitol Building in 1800 after the capital moved from Philadelphia. In 1801, the District of Columbia, formerly part of Maryland and Virginia and including the existing settlements of Georgetown and Alexandria, was officially recognized as the federal district; initially, the city was a separate settlement within the larger district. In 1846, Congress reduced the size of the district when it returned the land originally ceded by Virginia, including the city of Alexandria. In 1871, it created a single municipality for the district.
The Home Rule Act gives President Donald Trump the authority to use the D.C. police force for “federal purposes” if he determines that there are “special conditions of an emergency nature.”
There is no emergency in Washington DC.... The streets have been flooded with fbi, dea, border patrol and so on... In the midst of people just trying to buy a $15 latte or $20 sandwich... The video coming off of the streets there is hilarious.
People just trying to get their Uber home from the train station... This is idiocy

Your point being that even the legislator in a Red state cannot control the lack policing in a Blue city? I doubt that many would disagree with you - such action is not generally the task of state legislators. States sometimes interfere when there is a major, isolated incident, but when crime is generally ignored that falls to the city doing the ignoring. State Police are not beat walkers for city streets.

This report proves there was no insurrection on January 6. If someone wanted to have an insurrection, why would they order 10,000 troops to help with crowd control? The report proves that President Donald Trump ordered 10,000 troops for January 6 and it was the democrats who decided not...

Family separation is a big new political talking point , Some family separations are permanent however . Now Molly Tibbetts was separated permanently from her family , I wonder when this new phenomena of "selective outrage" will actually be for a good cause?
