How to watch Trump's speech for his 2025 joint address to Congress by CBS News (Mar 4, 2025)

"The president's address is set to begin at 9 p.m. ET. Its running time remains to be seen. During his first term, Mr. Trump's 2017 joint address to Congress ran about one hour. Over the next three years, his State of the Union addresses averaged 80 minutes, according to the American Presidency Project."

What will Trump say? With many articles speculating, what Americans concerns are, and your own desires only time will tell if one comes away satisfied, have more questions, or grimacing. One source, PBS, says . . .

    ** Where is Elon Musk?

    Perhaps comment now and after?

    Thoughts, criticisms, accolades, and/or commentary?

I'm inclined to echo the PBS five points as well as the top five shared by Pew Research along with the state of moral values. Yet, I realize that may be asking too much at this time.

Just what I expected—a man who stands by his agenda, won’t be swayed by politics or anything, and continues to represent what he promised to get him the win. I truly believe Trump will bring wonderful things to our nation, staying firm in his commitment to the American people and delivering the kind of leadership we need.

We can compare notes later, but I suspect that Dems will show out as they always do! They don’t have anything beyond theatrics and grandstanding (outside of TDS and propaganda) I just read where every Dem voted against women and girls. Sick!! I am so angry, no telling what I may type. I will leave it here for now.

I saw that—I was pissed at first. But then I took a moment to think about it. Will this actually play out in the 2026 elections? Hard to say. This is the kind of issue that could really sink them. It’s just common sense, and maybe, just maybe, more people will wake up to that and vote out the lawmakers who clearly lack it. In the end, I always believe Americans come back to common sense when the crazy has gone too far. I think yu right we should leave this issue for now, and stick to the subject.

I’m definitely tuning in to Trump’s speech tonight—it’s shaping up to be a big one. Elon Musk will be there, which makes sense given his role in the administration’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), where he’s been making major cuts to the federal workforce. I’m curious to see if Trump highlights that, and honestly, I think he will. On Ukraine, he’s expected to focus on peace rather than continuing U.S. support for the war, driving home the death and destruction that’s come from prolonged involvement—just as he did during his campaign. That could be one of the more interesting parts of the speech, especially after his recent talks with Zelensky. Lawmakers will be a spectacle, as always—reports say Democrats are bringing former federal employees who lost their jobs due to DOGE’s policies, likely as a way to make a statement. I expect plenty of theatrics from both sides. As for whether Trump will lay out a clear legislative plan, I think he’ll emphasize trade tariffs, immigration enforcement, and government cuts, but how much of a roadmap he provides remains to be seen. He’ll definitely bring up the over a trillion dollars in investment secured over the past month—that’s a big win for him. And which version of Trump will we see? If history is any guide, we’ll get a mix—some teleprompter discipline with moments of classic Trump, but in the end, I think we’ll see a very serious Trump. I fully expect him to stick to what he ran on—the issues that won him the presidency. This could be the speech that makes Americans stop in their tracks and face the reality that we’re a nation in need of fixing. And without a doubt, it’s going to set some hair ablaze.

Well, breaking news--- It appears as if Trump will have some wonderful news to speak of tonight.  I have hoped for this kind of news, and prayed for it for over 3 years---

"Zelenskyy made the concession in a lengthy statement posted to social media on Tuesday, saying Ukraine "is ready to come to the negotiating table." He added that last week's meeting "did not go the way it was supposed to be," and he said "it is time to make things right."

"My team and I stand ready to work under President Trump’s strong leadership to get a peace that lasts," Zelenskyy wrote.

"We are ready to work fast to end the war, and the first stages could be the release of prisoners and truce in the sky — ban on missiles, long-ranged drones, bombs on energy and other civilian infrastructure — and truce in the sea immediately, if Russia will do the same. Then we want to move very fast through all next stages and to work with the US to agree a strong final deal," he added."

X --- I would like to reiterate Ukraine’s commitment to peace.

None of us wants an endless war. Ukraine is ready to come to the negotiating table as soon as possible to bring lasting peace closer. Nobody wants peace more than Ukrainians. My team and I stand ready to work under President Trump’s strong leadership to get a peace that lasts.

We are ready to work fast to end the war, and the first stages could be the release of prisoners and truce in the sky — ban on missiles, long-ranged drones, bombs on energy and other civilian infrastructure — and truce in the sea immediately, if Russia will do the same. Then we want to move very fast through all next stages and to work with the US to agree a strong final deal.

We do really value how much America has done to help Ukraine maintain its sovereignty and independence. And we remember the moment when things changed when President Trump provided Ukraine with Javelins. We are grateful for this.

Our meeting in Washington, at the White House on Friday, did not go the way it was supposed to be. It is regrettable that it happened this way. It is time to make things right. We would like future cooperation and communication to be constructive.

Regarding the agreement on minerals and security, Ukraine is ready to sign it in any time and in any convenient format. We see this agreement as a step toward greater security and solid security guarantees, and I truly hope it will work effectively.

It's a start, and I appreciate Zelensky for deciding to step up and negotiate. I think his wants are sensible, and hopefully his stepping forward will persuade Putin to step up, and be reasonable in these negotiations.

The oval office meeting was scheduled for the sole purpose of signing the mineral rights deal.  He was ready to sign it that day. That is until Trump and Vance proceeded to bully and berate him.

You are diverting. I was just posted a comment that was posted today by Zelensky about hoping to now negotiate with the US for peace.  My comment did not mention the mineral deal. Yes, that would be wonderful for both Nations--- I am elated about even a prospect that peace could come from negotiations.  Zelensky's comment makes it clear he and his people want peace, and have hopes that Trump will work with him to bring peace to his people. I find the most important thing to concentrate now is not an open disagreement between these two men,  but the fact they will now work together for peace--- to stop the killing. That's my take on the situation.

A grotesque and embarrassing speech.  So after he sends the economy reeling he delivers a horribly long litany of absurd lies and grievances to the American people...

Instead of real policy, Trump delivered a speech full of lies, fear-mongering, and bizarre fantasies about Greenland and the Panama Canal.

Colbert summed it up just fine for me...a speech "Filled with useful lies’ and ‘applauded by useless idiots’: ‘another two hours we’ll never get back’

One must almost feel sorry for the Democrats, but they did act as expected for lack of a better word, grotesque. I mean, this is what they do best--- not a lick of common sense.

Trump’s speech last night was absolutely fantastic! I was overjoyed listening to him lay out everything he’s already accomplished in just six weeks—it’s incredible how much he’s gotten done so quickly. He stood strong on his agenda, never wavering, and that’s something I truly respect. Hearing him list off the wins, from the economy to border security, was a great reminder of why so many people support him. And now, with him working to pick up peace negotiations for Ukraine, it just shows his commitment to real leadership on the world stage.

Beyond the policy, there were some really touching moments with the guests he brought. Seeing him honor the hardworking Americans and those who have sacrificed so much was truly moving. You could tell how much it meant to the people in the room and to him personally. And, of course, he was as sharp and lighthearted as ever, especially when poking fun at the Democrats’ doom-and-gloom attitude. It’s refreshing to see a leader who can stay strong, get results, and still have a sense of humor. Oh, and Melania—she looked absolutely stunning, so elegant and graceful as always. The whole night was just an incredible reminder of why Trump has the support he does! He is a unique man, and thank god he is on the side of America.

I think TDS can work both ways. I think is is MAGA that has been deranged by Trump. They are living in a different reality then the rest of the world. They can't even see that Trump is running a mafia protection racket.  You either kiss his ring or you suffer the consequences.

In his speech, he taunted the democrats to speak out, but they didn't take the bait. Instead they put up signs and didn't stand up for him. And that drives him crazy. Silence can be golden. Some times to do nothing is to do everything.

No matter what he may accomplish, they will turn it into something ugly, because (in my view most have ugly hearts, an ugly negative mentality. I can't insult your view, I don't feel I have the right. But I did share my thoughts on Dems as a whole. I think we now have shared our view on the speech, no need to beat a dead horse.

No problem. It seems to me that while TDS is still present, it’s affecting a smaller portion of society. I truly believe that the Republican Party is being taken very seriously, especially with the way Trump has reinvigorated the party and given it new life. On the other hand, it appears that the Democrats have suffered a setback and are struggling to realize that what they were offering may not resonate with a majority of Americans. In my opinion, your party seems to be in a difficult position, and it’s hard to imagine a full recovery as they continue on the same path.

I believe that as we see Trump deliver positive results, more people may begin to recognize that they were wrong. This is just my perspective, and I try to approach it with a focus on the facts and applying common sense.

What I saw last night was a fair and balanced individual presenting his agenda, providing solid examples of progress, and being honest about the challenges ahead. This is the kind of person I can respect for his fighting spirit and his vision for America. I’m looking for fresh ideas—I don’t want to see things stagnate

NIH Research Funding Drops $1B Under Trump Administration
                  Publish DateFebruary 20, 2025

Federal funding for medical research has dropped by roughly $1 billion this year, raising alarm among universities, medical centers and lawmakers who warn the shortfall could slow progress in cancer, diabetes and heart disease research.

The National Institutes of Health’s (NIH) grant review process was also disrupted when the Trump administration suddenly canceled scheduled funding meetings due to a temporary communications freeze.

The NIH awarded about $2.5 billion in grants in the first six weeks of 2024, federal records show. This year, that number has plummeted to $1.4 billion — hundreds of millions of dollars lower than the amount awarded in the same timeframe over the past six years.

Trump administration. In January, a freeze on all federal grants and loans was implemented to review spending, leading to the halting of NIH grant payments and the cancellation of research funding panels. Although the freeze was officially rescinded on January 29, confusion remained about its status, impacting the NIH's funding processes.  The administration proposed a policy to cap indirect cost reimbursements for research institutions at 15%, deviating from previously negotiated rates. This change would have significantly reduced funding, but not take it away. However, a federal judge blocked this policy, preventing the proposed cuts from taking effect.

We now must wait to see the outcome. I suggest you do some research on the enormous Budget that Biden provided the NIH. Cutting it would still offer more than they received from any other president.

Yes, under President Biden, the NIH budget reached some of its highest levels in history. Here’s a breakdown of the key funding increases:

Biden's First Year (2021): In fiscal year 2021, after Biden took office, the NIH budget saw a significant increase. The NIH received $51 billion, a $6.5 billion increase from the previous fiscal year (2020). This was part of the broader relief package passed to address the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

2022 Funding: For fiscal year 2022, Biden proposed an even higher budget for the NIH. The NIH's budget for that year was increased to $45 billion, continuing a trend of robust investment in medical research. A large portion of this increase was aimed at COVID-19 research, vaccines, treatments, and other related health initiatives.

In the final years of President Biden's administration, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) received the following funding allocations:

      Fiscal Year 2023 (FY2023):

Base Budget: Congress approved a budget of $47.7 billion for the NIH, which included $1.412 billion from Public Health Service (PHS) Evaluation financing and $141.5 million in mandatory funding for the Special Type 1 Diabetes account.
      NIH.GOV
      Fiscal Year 2024 (FY2024):

Budget Proposal: The Biden administration requested $48.3 billion for the NIH's base budget, marking a $811 million (1.7%) increase over the FY2023 funding level.

Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H): The proposal included $2.5 billion for ARPA-H, a $1 billion (67%) increase over FY2023.

Final Budget: Congress enacted a budget of $47.1 billion for the NIH, resulting in an essentially flat funding scenario compared to the previous year.
