Is Bipartisanship Dead?

I'm wondering if we will ever see true bipartisanship in this country again, or are we condemned to watching ideological extremes fight for their my-way-or-the-highway agendas?

Ronald Reagan enjoyed enormous popularity and got a great deal of his agenda passed, all without ever having a GOP majority to back him up.

From the Clinton era on however, we have witnesses largely a never ending procession of us vs them showdowns with little in the way of compromise.

Oh, we have had our moments....Bill Clinton wisely moved back to the center after having his head handed to him in the 94 elections, and Barack Obama has shown that he does actually have some bipartisan capability in recent weeks, but keep in mind, both cases were only the result of two years of "my way or else" politics.

Is the party line divide what we truly have to look forward to in American politics?
