A Shopping Guide For Gals | Toys for your Big Boys

Updated on November 28, 2010

Note: After I wrote this I found a site on the internet that uses the title Big Boys Toys, I am not in any way affiliated with that site, I recieve no direct compensation for any of my product reviews from any manufacturer of the product reviewed. Though I am compensated via google ad sense and or Amazon.com for advertisements appearing on this site.

This is a page for all you gals in a happy monogamous relationship to bookmark. This is a collection of links to product reviews that you may find useful when its time to shop for that Big Boy that is your Hubby, Boyfriend, or Lover, If you have older boys that are at a stage where they are ready to advance to the next level in a hobby these may also serve you well.

First a little about me; I have been a hobbyist since an early age, building and collecting car and airplane models in my basement. Through the years at different times I have focused on many other pursuits as well (at times much to the chagrin of my late wife Zena) including but not limited to Golf, Cake Decorating, Model Railroading, Stamp Collecting, Photography, Woodworking, and others. It for me has been a process of lifelong learning that in my view gives me a break where I can focus intently my Free Time Energy on something just for the sake of it’s own inherent beauty (?) or the joy of the process or game.

Given all of the above, shopping for me for Birthdays and Christmas was at times a daunting task for my huny. Knowing that I was at a skill or knowledge level beyond the beginner stage but not knowing what the next level was for giving a gift that would bring a newfound joy to my pursuit of the moment meant she had to ask a lot of questions and it was difficult at best for her gifts to be a surprise. Now that never lessened the value of anything she gave me but I think it took a bit away from her in the giving. So to help all of you out there who may be in the same situation I dedicate this page and series to all of you wonderful gals who give the special gift of support for your Big Boys passion for excellence in his chosen hobby. God bless you all.

Music

Music in General has been a fundamental part of my life. I played athe Baritone in grade school band, and periodically have tried to learn the guitar, and the piano (both of which I still consider myself a beginner). I have helped many bands with their sound setups while serving in Iraq and found a new pursuit of Karaoke while I was there. I have an advanced understanding of sound engineering and recording, but not what I would call professional excellence (yet). Follow the links below for this subject matter..

Exercise/Fitness

Here I am a paid professional. I have designed Gym layouts while in Iraq and helped develop exercise programs for soldiers and civilian contractors, additionally worked closely with medical therapists to design programs for recovering moderately wounded soldiers. I currently work as a Recreation Therapy Assistant with the Veterans Administration, and am the lead for our hospital gym.

Golf

My knowledge of the game far exceeds my skill level but this is one of my hobbies that I truly do love. I have never had a bad day at the Golf Course. The game is meant to be difficult, and is the only sport that requires the player to call penalties on himself. There is absolutely no other feeling in the world that compares to the moment of striking that little white ball to near perfection. It happens to guys like me maybe once or twice in a game and brings a real smile at the memory no matter our days score….

Handy Man Stuff

If your huny is a DIY sort of guy, you may find some very useful stuff here. It’s still early in my process so keep an eye out for much more in the future.

Photography

I have been doing this for most of my adult life. The Army had Recreational Hobby shops at even very small camps with the photolab and darkroom a consistent part of every one. I have processed and printed black and white, and color back in the film days, and edit photos now using photoshop.

Future Stuff

On the radar Model Building and Model Railroading, Gardening, Coin and Stamp collecting, and others. If you are looking for ideas and don’t see them here please leave a comment and or ask a question or request a hub about it and I’ll do my best, but please be patient as I work shifts at a hospital and pulling good info together takes a little extra time these days.
