What are valid reasons to oppose same-sex marriage that are NOT due to religious beliefs?

The belief that only people similar to you are people who deserve the same opportunities as you, maybe?

    I can't think of anything...

Scientifically speaking, the attraction between two animals (in this case people) serves the purpose of mating to produce offspring & continue the thriving success of the species.
Two animals of the same gender cannot produce offspring, therefor they do not succeed in the goal of the natural instinct of sexual urges and desires to reproduce.

Being that the world is already over populated and the success of the humans is more than well in hand, I would argue that it is necessary for the survival of our species now to have same-gender attractions in order to limit the number of offspring produced....

Strictly speaking with no religious views involved smile
Other than this argument, there really is no logical reason to object which isn't based in a belief formed through that of religious practice and tradition.

I agree, there is no reason for a non religious person to be against homosexuality ....it's only a religious issue

The short answer to your question is:  NONE.  Those that do object do so based on ignorance, especially when it comes to their religious arguments.  I am so sorry to see that video posted below by 'lookatmenow', if it is viewed by the religious crazies, the albatross will all be placed in a huge pen, left to starve to death, and religious zealots will tell their brethren it is OK to kill them and anyone who agrees with their choices.
And next will be the extermination of one variety of newts.  I won't mention which variety as i don't want to see them discriminated against as well, cause God must surely hate them too.

I didn't post a video, I posted an article on how homosexuality is common in the animal kingdom and it actually helps the species as a whole despite what religious crazies say about gay people bringing on the end of society

Sorry, i misspoke when i said video instead of article.  It is obvious when anyone clicks on it that it is not a video.  My bad.  At least i got the albatross reference right.  L.O.L.  Anyway it was a great article.

there are none. the only arguement against it is religious based. people don't always get married to have children and the don't get married to raise a family always. the nice thing about same-sex marriage is that if they want kids, in most cases they will adopt.

Nope.  Well, not valid ones anyway.  There is a lot of "I don't like it, therefore it should not be done" reasons - and whilst they are valid to those who hold them, they are not reasons that marriage equality should be held back.

It is not damaging to society, it is not damaging to children, it is not harmful to other people.  In fact, it is more a lesson in diversity and acceptance than anything else.
