This is whether you think understanding is a burden or not?  Understanding is about learning to be wise.  The wiser you are, the more you realise there is more to life and understanding of it.  Is this a burden, I don't think so.

Forgiveness is understanding.  We all live life differently and, whatever a situation, we all feel justified in our actions whether outside parties agree or not.  A clash of truth, doesn't mean it isn't real to the person.  The point here is that we all live in our own realities and what is true to one, isn't true to another.  If you understand this, you may be able to forgive easier, even when you don't understand the individual's rationale.

We, for example, don't feel Hitler's actions were justifable now, but the people of Germany did at that time (much like the rest of the world!) - that is why he got into the powerful position that he did.  This was their truth and, although on hindsight the atrocities are morally wrong, forgiveness comes in understanding their truth at the time.  The Jews forgive a nation through learning and understanding.  The economic climate was ripe for a scape goat.  Just like today, the ecomomic climate is ripe for the world to seek another scape goat - the Muslims, can you see this?  Maybe where there is forgiveness, there needs to be learning from the past.  If nothing is learned, how can forgiveness be fully effective?

Having said this, forgiveness can feel emotionally burdensome because of our innate base instinctual desires.  We hurt, therefore, we want the perpurtraitors to hurt too.  It is this which makes forgiveness difficult and hard to overcome.
