YES SOME MEN THINK THAT NOW THAT A WOMAN IS HIS WIFE, THEY BELONG TO THEM AND OWN THEM.

An old quote states: "Men marry women hoping they will never change and women marry men hoping they'll change overtime."

Benhard Ighner probably said it best in his song lyrics: "Everything must change, Nothing stays the same, Everyone will change, No one stays the same, The young become the old, Mysteries do unfold, Cause that's the way of time, Nothing and no one goes unchanged."
Each of us evloves over the years and our desires and goals also change. Communication is our GPS system for figuring out if we are "growing together" or "growing apart".

Having said that I also believe there are some people in both genders that play "bait & switch" when it comes to attracting a mate. They show their "authentic" selves (after) there is an emotional commitment from their mate or marriage. Awhile back I wrote a hub related to this topic: Relationships: Do We Save Our Best for the Beginning? http://dashingscorpio.hubpages.com/hub/ … ebeginning

Yes. The whole concept of marriage is that you put your spouse before all others (except God), followed by your children. It stands to reason that, in order to make that marriage last a lifetime, men and women must change and adapt so that they can learn to live with each othe. THey must continue to change and adapt as their needs and life circumstances change. If men and women didn't change, NO marriage would ever survive.

I must say, I totally agree with Joan on this subject. She is dead on.

A little. If you think married couples act a certain way, you will soon fit the stereotype. But there are always those couples who never fit the stereotype. Some still look like honeymooners when they are in wheelchairs and sipping Ensure in a retirement home. Others like they are still dating with how much time they spend downtown and visiting friends or going places. Your relationship is what you want it to be.

But some people change even before marriage. Before getting married, my husband went through a transformation. He realized I could actually disappear and it changed our relationship for the better. There's usually a change after your first child as well.
