Have you ever had an argument with your mate over a "hypothetical" situation?
Maybe another couple is going through something and one of you asked your significant other what (they) would do under the same circumstances? Or you learn that your mate did something in a (past) relationship which has (no) relevance to your relationship but it still bothers you enough to fight about it…etc In other words you are fighting about something that has nothing to do with NOW.
I wonder if some people (look) for things to fight about. What do you think?
I've done it! Many times...
I think that our brains have a very hard time separating reality from non-reality. For instance, if you are watching a horror movie, your brain feels as though those scary things are happening to you.
So, if you learn something about your mate that would annoy, anger, hurt, etc...then picturing them doing that act will make you feel annoyed, angry, hurt etc.
That's why it is always better to stay in the moment and focus on what is.
I can't think that we have, but married friends had a massive row deciding how to split money if they had a big lottery win. He wanted to give a million to each of his five siblings. She said in that case her one sister should get five million. He said no, her sister should get one million. Fireworks! If they do win the lottery, the situation may be even worse because her sister sadly died. And yes, I think some people do look for conflict.
No, I don't think so, but I do remember one huge huge fight when we were younger over who was more stubborn. It was the stupidest fight ever.
