There are many ways to run a successful relationship.

Understanding others mistakes : Misunderstandings, are very common between any two people. True relationship, will never have any misunderstandings. Because, Best friends, are not those, who have similarities, with each other, But who has the better understanding of their dissimilarities.

Helping Each Other : Every one in this world, will have a chance to help others. And In Relationship, it plays a key role. Because, knowing others problems, and doing as much help as we can, shows our importance towards them, and they will reflect the same, when we were in hard situations.

Distance never separate two people, who were in a relationship. So, its not necessary for two persons, to talk to each other, everyday,  to become best friends. Sometimes, a smile conveys much more words.

Honesty, trust, loyalty, love & devotion, intimacy, and emotional security. Each key or trait should lead into the next one.
However before pursing a relationship a person owes it to them self to do a certain amount of introspective thinking to figure out who they are and what they want/need in a mate.
People who overlook this important step oftentimes allow "impulsive connections" and "happenstance" to dictate their relationship choices. It's the equivalent of going shopping without a list! Afterwards they attempt get their mate to "change".
Very few if any of us is walking around with a hand held up in the air screaming: "I'm looking for someone to change me!"
Most of us want to be loved and accepted for who (we) are. You're better off seeking a person who (already is) the kind of person you want to be with.
The goal is to find someone who shares your same values, wants the same things for the relationship that you do, naturally agrees with you on how to obtain those things, and last but not least there is a mutual depth of love and desire for one another.
There are only two ways to experience joy and peace of mind in relationships: We either get what we want or we learn to be happy with what we have. Stay or move on. The choice is up to us!
"Never love anyone who treats you like you're ordinary."
    - Oscar Wilde
