I imagine there are some people who attempt to love unconditionally. It usually means they don't love themselves!
In other instances it's a matter of "wishful thinking" and hope that the person will "change" someday & recognize their love is special.
To accomplish such a feat would mean one has no "boundaries" or "deal breakers" when it comes to how they allow others to treat them. It's been said only God and mothers love "unconditionally".
Anyone with a measure of self-esteem or self-love at some point is going to show people the door after being lied to, abused, cheated on, or mistreated (one too many times).
For most sane people love does come with "conditions"!
I don't believe in being a doormat for anyone.
    I don't love unconditionally.
No one gets a "free pass" to mistreat me/take advantage of me.
It's been said the greatest love of all is learning to love yourself. Anyone who does so is going to have a "line in the sand".

That is a common state of maternal love for a child.
