Don't Blame it on God...

Natural Disasters

Devastating earthquakes, overwhelming tsunamis, mind-boggling tornadoes, floods, volcanoes, hurricanes and more. All of these are blamed on God or blamed on Satan. What we fail to remember is that the whole creation is in travail; it groans in pain, as it waits for the body of Christ to operate in the power and authority of God.

For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God.For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected [it] in hope; because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now. Romans 8:19-23

It is true that God is the final authority in all of the earth; He is the creator of heaven and earth. It is true that we have an eternal enemy who hates all that God has created; especially humankind. It is also true that when Adam and Eve fell, not only were they cursed but their fall caused the earth to fall under a curse as well.

Then to Adam He said, "Because you have heeded the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree of which I commanded you, saying, 'You shall not eat of it': "Cursed [is] the ground for your sake; In toil you shall eat [of] it All the days of your life.Genesis 3:17.

And, just as the curse on the man who is not born-again remains, so the curse on the earth remains.

Innocent People

What about the loss of innocent life? How is it justified? Why does it happen? If God is loving..... then why do these things happen? These are the questions that the natural human mind asks. Especially the one that questions God's love. Speculation and conclusions as to the answers to these questions has been fodder for many a great debate. But this is only because we conveniently leave out the fact that the earth is cursed.

The earth is in pain; it groans and travails, it longs to be restored to its original state... its pre-Adamic fall state. Scientists tell us the the core of the plates in the earth are in constant movement, they tell us that atmospheric turmoil is always happening somewhere in the world. Everyday there is some phenomena that occurs somwhere that kills hundreds of people.

The general reason for the loss of innocent life is that the people who died were in the direct path of the disaster. It sounds cold and unfeeling, especially if you or your loved ones have suffered a personal loss as the result of a natural disaster. It is a hard pill to swallow, but although hard to take, it is better to face life's realities.

Birth Pangs...

For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now. Romans 8:22

The word groan is a noun and it is defined as:
1.a low, mournful sound uttered in pain or grief: the groans of dying soldiers.
2.a deep, inarticulate sound uttered in derision, disapproval, desire, etc. 3.a deep grating or creaking sound due to a sudden or continued overburdening, as with a great weight: We heard the groan of the ropes as the crane lowered the heavy cargo into the ship's hold. Dictionary.com

The earth is overburdened with sin. Nobody wants to talk about it and most people think to speak of sin is old-fashioned and out-dated. But it was sin that brought the curse on the earth in the first place. We needn't close our eyes to the fact that sin is real and has negative effects.

Many people want to be very specific and say things like, "Katrina was a result of VooDoo practices in New Orleans, or the Japanese Tsunami was a result of idol worship in Japan...maybe, maybe not. Whatever the specific causes were we may never know. What we do know is that the earth acted violently.

It is most likely that the earth groans indiscriminately. Just like labor pains, you know they are coming, but you don't know how strong they will be and you don't know when they will hit.

Some of us like to blame natural disasters on over-population, abuse of environmental assets and the general paranoia that the earth is just not able to sustain all that humans are doing to it. The fact of the matter is (Biblically speaking) that the shock waves of the sin in the garden of Eden is still moving.

The word labor is used as a noun in this case and means: the physical effort and periodic uterine contractions of childbirth.or the interval from the onset of these contractions to childbirth.Dictionary.com

If you are a mother, you need no explanation of how the earth must feel. You understand that labor is a lengthy process (unless you are one of the fortunate few who had quick births). For those of you who are not mothers, let me explain. The childbirth is proceeded by the process of labor. Labor in essence is the action of the cervix taking its time to open a massive 10 centimeters so that a baby can be born. It hurts, it is involuntary and it isn't over until the baby is born.

Can you imagine the earth being in a constant flux of movement? Sometimes small movements, sometimes large movements, but movement at all times. Labor can make you vomit, it can make you cry, it can make you scream and it can make you moan. It will make you angry, sad, scared; it subjects you to a countless number of emotions.

So it is with the earth...

The Church's Responsibility

For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God.Romans 8:20

The earth is waiting for the sons and daughters of God to be revealed. That means us! In the beginning God gave us dominion and authority which was lost to us after Adams fall. Jesus restored that dominion and authority to us when He rose from the dead. Each and everyone that has received Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior is now a son or daughter of God.

But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, [even] to them that believe on his name: John 1:12

The earth needs us, the sons and daughters of God to take authority, to command that it be at peace. It needs us to step out in faith and perform the "greater works than these" that Jesus spoke of in the Gospel of John.

"Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father." John 14:12

Don't you believe the Word of God? Don't you believe that God will use you in a spectacular fashion, for His name sake? If you don't believe it you should believe it. Why is is that my brothers and my sisters preach a good game but are afraid to step out and do the work?

Jesus didn't tell us that doing His works and the greater works was dependent upon us in any other area than believing. All we need do is put the Word out there and Jesus will perform the works. Try it Body of Christ.... The next time the weather report calls for dangerous weather begin to pray; not in fear, but in faith. Take authority over the elements. Remind the earth that God has given you power and that death and destruction will not come near the area you are praying for.

  • In Jesus' Name, command the wind to unwind when faced with a tornado
  • In Jesus' Name, command the sea to be calm when news of a hurricane is reported
  • In Jesus' Name, command the earth to be still when an earthquake begins

Lightening storms, Hail storms, whatever type of dangerous weather may be reported; stand up as a son or daughter of God and speak to the atmosphere. You may be surprised at how the earth and elements may respond to the Word of God in Jesus' Name.

What Happens If Nothing Happens?

Well, first off, something will happen, that is guaranteed. Now, for some of you the elements will obey the command and the weather will change. You will get a report on a calming of the winds, a turning of the storm or minimal damage versus major damage. For others of you there will be a growth spurt in your faith. You will become a little more confident of who you are in Christ. You will begin to grow in faith....

But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. Hebrews 11:6

Step on out there, don't be afraid. Speak the Word!

The good thing is that you don't have to wait until danger is approaching. You can speak peace to the atmosphere above, and to the earth beneath, at anytime you desire. You have power Believer...you should practice using it.
