The Great American Fast
Prayer and fasting
How often should we fast in prayer? I believe it is good for our spiritual health and need to do it more than I do. This summer we have been blessed to be invited to The Great American Fast. This is an all day prayer and fasting service seeking revival in America. I have a challenge to ask all of my followers here on the hubpages. I will get to that a bit later.
For now I will explain a little of our journey to Bellefonte, Pa. Friday July 1, 2011 we will travel the eight hour trip to Bellefonte. We will get settled in and try to see a bit of the area Friday afternoon and evening. On Saturday we are carrying the cross onto Penn State University. We will be doing a bit of street preaching taking the Gospel to the street. Saturday we hope to see a lot of the State College and Bellefonte areas. Sunday will be the all day prayer and fasting service. We will be honoring God in fast and prayer throughout the day. There will be several pastors and evangelists speaking during this service. I look into the book of Acts chapter 17 and the last sentence of verse 16. (NOTE I usually never only take a part of a verse to preach or teach, without at least explaining what transpired to bring that part to importance, in this circumstance I do not think it is inappropriate.) These that have turned the world upside down are come hither also. That is my goal and prayer for the Great American Fast, that the people in Bellefonte will see a mighty work through Jesus Christ being done and say they have come here too. Is that how you feel about evangelism in your area? Do you wish to see Christ glorified so much in your town that the people we say they have come here too?
We need to witness we need to spread Christ to a lost and closed hearted America. Are you ashamed of Christ? Many say no way but what do they do to spread the Gospel? Jesus said if we are ashamed to speak of Him to men He will be ashamed to speak of us to God the Father. May I give a testimony of being ashamed? I have shared this before but I feel it is necessary to give it here again. I remember the hurt one night as my daddy was on me about something I had done or said I forget what by now but remember the consequence. He finally looked at me with the anger brewing from his face and said he was never so ashamed of me as at this time. That hurt far exceeded any remembrance of joy I ever had with my daddy. How would it feel to be standing with Christ before God and Jesus say that though you are His child He is ashamed of you? Man! I cannot even fathom that. So we need to be about the Father's work each and every day. Then maybe those words will be uttered, these that turned the world upside down have come hither also.
Later Sunday after all the fasting and services come to a close we will have a dinner together then prepare to leave for our homes. Prayerfully we all will take the service back to our home churches and seek revival in our home towns and local churches.
