Why do we try to control God?

Updated on October 30, 2010

Are you're wrestling with God? Are you still trying to get him to do things your way?

people everywhere have the same basic problem with God. He's God and we're not.

As you go before him in prayer do you desire his will and not yours or are you trying to influence God to submit to your will?

We want to change God. We want to change his mind, change how he treats us, and change his authority over us. We pray our hearts out hoping we can change the only unchangeable being in the universe. Millions of us spend our entire lives trying to get God to do things our way.

How is it that seem to think that we are so much more wise then the creator of all that exists? Why can't he just see the brilliance of our plans and desires?

We're convinced the problem is that God just isn't listening to us, but of course the truth is that we aren't listening to God. We don't want God or anybody else telling us what to do. We want to give the orders.

Sooner or later, we realize that our own authority is not trumping Gods authority.

Trusting that the Lord God loves us and will always make the best plans for our ultimate well being is really more difficult then it should be. Our self exaulting ego's Just don't want to believe and accept that it is God who has the final authority in all matters. If somehow, we could just let our Heavenly Father be the source of our lives without fighting him for control, We will find that life can be so much more satisfying.

Sure, we believe in God, but to allow him to run our life? That's asking a little too much if we can't let go of our need to be the boss in all matters that concern us. To relinquish control takes alot of humility and faith.  I mean, come on, do we really believe that Gods plans are so unimportant that we should be able to convince him to change them to fit our idea of what he should do?

This is what I pray for, that I will quit trying to get in Gods way as he carry's out the amazing plans he has for me.
