Different Gods and Different Religions - what makes us think any of it is real?

With so many different gods (all of whom claim to be the "one true God"), and so many different Religions telling people to live their lives in so many different (and often contradictory ) ways, what makes us think any of it is real?

It makes us think all of them real precisely in the same way as we know there are different cultures - all of them true and real - and yet humanity or human values are the same in all of them. As we learn to appreciate diverse cultures, nationalities and races, so do we respect all religions and the unique notion of God in each of them. The religion or the religious adherents that claim their religion as the only true religion suffer from the same ethnocentric bias that the real societies and cultures suffer from. There lived a mystic by the name of Ramkrishna Paramhans in India in 1860s who experienced communiion with Christ, Prophet Mohammad and the Hindu Goddess Kali on different occasions and came to the conclusion of unity of same truth in diverse religions, so he proclaimed as different rivers originating from different sources merge in the ocean so are the different religions the different paths to the same end.

It sounds like you're arguing that there can't be a true faith because there are so many other religions making the same claim. But how reasonable is that? That's like saying that there can't be a legitimate program of science because of all the junk science out there claiming to be "real science" or some other promotional.

There is nothing logical here in this accusation. Just as there is only one answer to some mathematical problems and just as there is only one Oprah!, there can be only one true faith with the others being false.

Assuming there is a "true faith" in there somewhere - How would we know which one it is -  Unlike Maths or Science, there is no way of testing the truth of the matter, and the likelihood of us hitting on the one "true faith" amongst all the hundreds of untrue ones by chance must be pretty poor.

If you look at all the religions in the world what you will find is the 'Good' that God want's us all to be.  All religions guide people to accepting that they have 'A Creator' and they are answerable to that One who has created them.

From Budisim to Hinduisim - from Jewdasim to Islam they preach in the ONENESS of God.

But hay we live in the modern age of science and facts - which is why I think we all came into being by pure chance, we evolved from primordial soup and that computer on my desk just appeared it was not as a cause of design nor was it created but simple just appeared with an intel CPU inside - amazing this world...hang on for a moment - I can see that red Ferrari just materializing in my driveway...:-)

    all the best

Logically, as faiths/beliefs differ from one another, then all can't be true. Which simply leads to another question; which, if any, do I follow?
Bibowen, you state "there can be only one true faith with the others being false"? do you have any idea as to which is the true one? I suspect not, as none of us do!
As an individual, I do as I believe is good, I'm kind, loving, honest and charitable, I don't need a religion to lead me down any path. My conscience is clear!

This is your answer. The one true GOD is known as I am Alpha and I am Omega. The beginning and the ending. The first and the last. Since this is GOD and includes everything the visible and invisible then GOD can choose however to reveal GOD to human beings that the individual will accept in their upbringing or culture, nations, etc... Those who seek GOD out of a sincere heart to know that GOD is real will find GOD in their life on the earth by whatever means that GOD chooses to reveal himself to them who really want to believe and know GOD for themselves. So now that solves this question and GOD will reveal GOD to whomever he chooses to for his purposes and Glory as the heavens declare the Glory of GOD to all of humanity. This would include the atheist that GOD will reveal GOD to them in each individual life accordingly to their particular make up in their thoughts process of thinking that GOD is a myth and that those who believe and know GOD is all in our imagination. GOD knows how to deal with the atheist. Glory to GOD.

I believe that God is real. But I completely agree with you. Who is to say one religion is right, while another is wrong. This is a very good question Gaizy. I wish I knew the answer to your question.

Think of these self proclaimed Gods as vehicles to carry you to your destination via their respective faiths which are like a different routes to a common destination- The Supreme Being.
