        Thank you for your answer.

The you that is you is a product of the brain. When the brain shuts down so does the "you", as happens when doctors shut down the brain for surgery. No brain activity equal no "you". Sorry to be the one delivering reality.

Then what about those people that rise above thier bodies during surgery and see the whole thing happen, even to the tie the Dr. was wearing?(the physical them has been put under with anesthisia but the spiritual them is still very much awake and aware). There are just some things that are unexplainable. I don't know the why's or the hows but the you that is you is seperate from the physical body. Did you ever hear the saying we are in this world but not of this world? Well we choose to come into this life through the vehicle of a body to experience life on earth then when our time is thru we shed the physical bodies and move back into the spiritual realm(the ethers)

Yes, there have been people who claimed to have experienced an out of body experience however all experiments have shown that they were not in fact out of their bodies. Messages were left in ER rooms that only people floating high in the room could see, but not one person who claimed to have that experience relayed the message. Meaning, they didn't leave their bodies and were only experiencing an oxygen deprived brain. It's good practice to allow your mind to control your thoughts. Just because you want an afterlife doesn't mean you get one, thinking you will is an indication that your not in control of your mind. Don't be gullible to your own subconscious.

There have been several books written on life after death experiences ,so to the people that experienced it, it was definitely real for them . So unless you experience it for yourself you can't say it is not true for that person that actually had the experience. But you can believe it is ones gullability but you can't refute what they expereinced.

Sure I can. People make lots of claims that are lies, I don't have to believe any of them especially people who are making money of the sales of books marketed to the very gullible.

Well Rad Man I guess that is your perogitive to believe  or disbelieve whatever you like. Thanks for sharing your comments. It's nice to see the diversity of opinions. Some are closed off to any possiblities where others have experienced and are open to all possibilites. Even quantum physics states belief in all possibilities. So to each his own.

No I don't. I don't think there is life after death for the simple reason that there is no evidence to suggest such a thing, hence there is no reason why I should believe it.

How could that which is Energy ever die. It might, however, go dormant for a while after the loss of the body vehicle. As far as humans... once the soul has left the body, it rests on the astral plane for a while and then when desirous of a new body, it is attracted to the flash of light which is produced with the union of egg and sperm.  There are those who know these things. Deal with it.

Our basic molecular structure continues on to become part of other things, but our body's cells die, our organs cease to function, our consciousness stops when our brains' cease. We don't go into any sort of afterlife, we break down.

The soul is energy. Haven't you heard? Don't you know?  Who moves your arm?  Not your arm... YOU do!

There's no evidence to suggest anything like a 'soul' exists. My arm is moved by electrical impulses carrying messages from the brain being sent to the muscles in my arm which causes them to move.

According to my sources, the human will is evidence of the soul. The will is evidence of the energy of the soul. The awarenesses of people, (and possibly animals, insects and plant life) is evidence of their souls. Without the soul operating the body you could be in a coma.
              or dead.
              ...well, out of the body.

TMDHemsley17posted 9 years agoin reply to this

That doesn't make any sense. The human will? As in free will? That's evidence of nothing, other than your brain can make choices. The awarenesses of people? As in being aware of yourself and your surroundings? Again that's not evidence of a soul, it gives no empirical link to the concept of a soul and offers no physical evidence of one.

What is the source of choices? Why would you choose to eat a salmon over an octopus?  Stimulus is a response from within
                  ...what determines that response?

                  Hint: (The fact that the
                  human will
                  is
                  free...
                      is a given.)

Are YOU just the random activity of your brain?  Are you, as soul, not operating your brain?

TMDHemsley17posted 9 years agoin reply to this

Choices and response are determined based on a number of different stimuli. A person could choose to eat salmon over an octopus because of taste, availability, cost, health issues, etc. What this has to do with the existence of a soul, or the existence of an afterlife I have no idea. This line of argument offers nothing to the debate except pointless rambling.

P.S. I am operating my brain. I refers to me, soul. When My soul leaves the body I will still feel a sense of my own existence. Why?
Because that's just how it is.
There is proof, but one must not be closed to it. (the proof)

Thanks for helping me clarify and answer this question, TMDHemsley.

maybe even amebas and parasites... and viruses.   yikes.  Some say even rocks have awareness. And the soul reincarnates into higher and higher lifeforms. Humans are the highest form.

I have to help you out a bit here.

Humans are not the highest life form. Technically we have all evolved to where we need to be to survive, but humans certainly don't live the longest so I'd have to say at 400 years old the Ocean Quahog is a higher life form followed by the 211 year old Bowhead Whale and the 205 year old Rougheye Rockfish.

Is there life after death? Wishful thinkings combined with a weak ego says yes. However, the evidence says no. When the brain is shut down so does all thought as thought is a product of the brain. Anything else is wishful thinking without control of ones mind.

Thank you TMD Hemsly17 for your answers.
Thank you Kathryn L Hill for your strong beliefs and inner knowings.
Thank you Rad Man for sharing your answer.
We all agree that when the physical body dies that ,that piece is gone but the disagreement comes where some believe in an energy, a spirit so to speak that endures lifetime after lifetime and Yes there is no physical proof of this it is simply an inner knowing of feelings one experiences after a close loved one passes on, some who truly believe experience this while others who do not believe don't as they are closed off to any other possibility. But if one does experience it , that is proof enough for that individual. Just like miracles some are totally unexplainable but yet they have happened...ie: mothers having the supposed super human strength to lift a car to save thier child etc... alot that is unexplainable but yet very true for the one experiencing it.
Frankly I think it would be really boring to know that this one life is it. But to each his own belief system. Thank you for all sharing in this discussion.

While I don't know for sure, I would love to believe there is life after death.  I would like to believe that we come back as different individuals and sometimes, those realms, that of our present and past life merge in what we know as 'deja vu' experiences.  I would even go so far as to wonder if our present life is really a long dream and when we wake, that is when our real life begins.  You just never know...

I actually believe in the metaphysical world. It's amazing to realize that all my ancestors live through me and that they have manifested themselves to me in various ways without my having any foreknowledge of their existence. Only when I traced my ancestry did I awaken into the awareness that such does exist.

Yes! Right after my grandfather died I felt his presence over my right shoulder and a feeling of encouragement with what I was doing at the time, which was planting a garden. Two elderly neighbors near me both reported that their husbands appeared to them shortly after they had died to bid a final goodbye.
