Because they aren't as loving and compassionate - as they fancy themselves to be (which constitutes a 'true' vegetarian).

I'm sure you have some reliable statistics and studies to back this up.
Personally speaking, most atheists I've ever seen were like hypocritically cruel. Very nice and pleasing.
