I'm not sure Jesus was a Socialist. His philosophy is much more along the lines of, "give your possessions to the poor because the world is going to end soon anyway". He's an apocalyptic Jewish prophet who directs his followers not to worry about tomorrow because God will provide for them just as he provides for the sparrows.
So Christians can believe what they want politically speaking, it's not as though Christ ever commanded them to take up a political position.
