Has church "politics" discouraged you or changed your walk with God?

   Has church "politics" discouraged you or changed your walk with God?
   
   Are you a Minister? Choir Director? A Church Leader in any way? Are you a member of a church that has "shunned" you out, or pushed you aside, for the purpose of "politics" or church agenda? What's your thoughts?

   I used to a pretty regular church goer.  But not anymore for some time now. I do think there are a lot a politics that goes on in church. Which is silly and contradicts what church is supposed to be about.  I always felt that the ones who squeaked to most got the attention, while the ones who tried to me humble, and not make waves, were overlooked. Which makes them feel unimportant to the church, sad. I guess that is why I stopped going it started feeling more like a popularity contest instead of a place of worship. I Still have my own way of worship and am much happier now than when I went to church.

   Thanks Diane. Unfortunately, there is a lot of truth in this. We also find that churches seem to lean more towards "social clubs" rather than houses of prayer! Many are using the "tithing" as leverage of 'membership fees', to determine who gets more 'pulpit time' or who gets to sing the most specials. This is exactly what Jesus taught against, yet it seems that even today...no one is paying attention!

   Yes, they have...while I never held a position in church such as minister, choir director, etc., I have seen many people of all stripes get phased out of church. At first I thought maybe this was a problem with the church I was going to, since it had been the only one I attended since I was three years old. I left that church and tried another...and another...and another...and sadly have found them all to be the same. I used to be able to get some peace, comfort, and "spiritual food" from church, but now all I see are "undesirable" people that the church tries to get rid of so they'll look better. I know a couple of people who have completely given up because of this, because if they can't turn to the church and find the acceptance they need, then where should they look?

   I am a Christian lai- person. I attend Roman Catholic Church. I sing with two dynamically different church choirs at two different churches. I evangelize through my HUB on Hub Pages but I care not what the agenda of the church is I do not let this interfere with my desire to sing for God, or to spread Gods Word.
