Why is the Catholic Church so dead set against divination?
The Book of Revelation contains astrological references. St John the Devine was exiled to Patmos for divination. If astrology was ok for people in the Bible why does the Church discourage people who merely read it from 'consulting the oracle'? (I do not - by the way - consider astrology to have any validity whatsoever.)
I fear that divination may well be looked upon in the same way as paganism and we all know what a dim view the church takes of that.
By consulting the Oracle, you are admitting that something else in this world has power--even if only the power of foresight or rather, precognition.
I think the church would suggest that you ask God--even though it's probably that in the majority of cases, he may not answer.
