Is the question about the tree falling in the empty forest an honest question or was it started...
by someone looking to justify violating societies laws while no one was looking?
No, it wasn't honest. Because the answer is a ludicrous attempt to spin rhetoric in an endless charade of "but what if(s)...." No matter what answer is given a fact still remains the same...
Whether you're in the forest or not if a tree falls it will make a noise because reality facts of "cause & effect" don't change. If the fallen(cause) tree makes a noise(effect) when you're there, it would still make a noise because of "cause & effect". Any attempt to squeeze out another answer shows the idiocy of the questioner.
The question could be phrased about a person who screams in agony as they die. Most people would agree that the person makes a noise; is the tree any less alive?
