I am wondering why so many strangers, even bank tellers and store clerks, ask my religion and...

when they discover I am not LDS ask if we can still be friends. Sometimes they even ask to come to my house. People from the local ward keep showing up at the door to visit or ask for donations. Before I was living with my husband (our jobs kept us in different states for several months after our wedding) a singles ward sent different women every day to "check on him" no matter how often he told them to stop. I am not LDS and he does not attend church, although his family is very active. He insists that this is normal friendly behavior in Utah and I don't understand the culture.

sounds like your neighbors are pushy, obnoxxious people who would try to wear you dow into believing just like they do. Don't fall for it. Go to amazon and google some of the books that have been written by women who either married into their religion or were born into it. Believe me you don't want any part of it.

    That's Utah for ya.

One time babuska aked me what my religion was and I answered "born again pagan' - oh boy did she get pissed. Started swearing to me in Russian.

I don't like Utah nor LDS.

    Big time

Go watch that South Park animation episode about the Mormon. The founder's father used to witch for gold in NY - and sell beer & cakes at the revivals when he was a boy in NY.

It is where "Talking in your hat" expression comes from for meaning "you're full of $h!t!"

Are you sure you are from Boston ?

In the first instance, it could be your looks ... and Perhaps, Religion is now the best way to kick start a conversation ... than ... "Ye olde Weather" of the yore.
