When you weigh up the many parallels between Jesus and earlier solar deities: such as Horus and Mithra etc, it becomes clear that Jesus was a construct put together for a very specific purpose - to wrest control of Judaism away from the Sadduccees and Pharisees - who had allowed the installation of the effigies of Roman gods and emperors deified by the senate - in Jewish temples. St John called these temples 'the synagogues of satan' in Revelation.
The idea was to re-brand Judaism altogether and make it more radical, more revolutionary. The guys behind it all hoped, eventually, to be powerful enough to take on Rome and regain control of Israel and Judea. It was never their intention to found a completely new religion.
So no - Jesus Christ never existed as a real person. He was an amalgam of earlier divinities. And, what is more, the early church fathers knew it.
