Yes. Sadly people as a whole need something to believe in. Believing in one's self is just too hard. It is easier to have something else to blame for all that is bad, thank for all that is good, and complain to when things aren't going the way they are wanted to. Facing death with no happily ever after is just too hard for many to face no matter how good life and the world are.This is coming from an atheist though so I'm sure my opinion is one sided.
