Do we need religion or a sense of God to overcome estrangement?
Suppose that someone with the capacity to send people back in time offered you a very lucrative job proposal to go back in time and kill or otherwise stop the founders of all the great religions of the world. Your contractor wants to hire you to do this because he/she thinks that there would be much more peace in the world if these religions had not existed. Would you take the job?
I don't know about the other founders, but Jesus sounded like a pretty swell fellow. I suspect that the Church in his mind as a fellowship of people was very different from the Church that has existed.
Human institutions of power, wealth, and control I think are inevitable--the background ideology is essentially irrelevant, except as measured by its ability to sufficiently enthrall the masses to do the bidding of the masters.
If not the ideologies we have, it would have just been some other.
No we don't need religion or a sense of God to overcome estrangement.
All we need is an open, receptive mind and a sincere willingness to reach out to the other side in an effort to ovecome the estrangement.
The other party has to be equally willing to do this also

Was Christ Jesus tolerant of other religions or did he teach that there was only one true religion?

I can understand the positives of putting your faith in such and such religion, which is why I do not think religion as a whole should be completely eradicated, however in this day and age I honestly wouldn't mind if it was.My question is this: why does religion NEED to exist? If you say "So...
