    As I know, there has never been a pope from outside of Europe.

      An article I was reading the other day said there were several early Popes from the region of northwest Africa, basically in the area of Tunisia/Carthage.

      Excellent...who knew? To date I always assumed that popes were from Europe alone. Thank you so much for the links.
