I asked this question in another thread, and got this excellent answer from Jenny:
However, there are more people willing to answer this, too - and we don't want to hi-jack the other thread
So, if you can add something to what Jenny wrote, or give your own unique version, I would appreciate it
Thank you, Misha
There are quite a few aspects of the above definitions from Jenny's post that I can connect with. I have been working on this issue; trying to write about it, this will be helpful.
At this point in time I believe there are two levels of soul and two levels of spirit. I define the difference between the two levels of each by using a capital letter to start each word for one definition and a lower case letter to start each word for the other definition, as well.
i.e. Spirit = God/Source and that energy that Is (God) that fills/animates all living things and actually also that energy that all matter substance is made of. I think that is similar to the 'chi' or 'qi' of the Tao in Chinese philosophy and the 'prana' of the Hindu religion as well as the Shikinah in Judaic Kaballah, when it is animating the human being, but not sure if it is the substance from which all non human is made.
i.e. Soul= each individual's Real/True Self and the consciousness thereof...our highest level of guidance that is One with God/Source, that we can access, but is uniquely our individual Soul. Non physical in substance but One with Spirit. But it is connected to all aspects of our being, our spiritual, mental, emotional and physical 'bodies' that work together in harmony when in a balanced state of wholeness when we are alive. But when we die from this physical body, the records (everything that we ever thought, spoke or did) from all of our bodies that we have accrued and are according to our divine plan go to "heaven with the Soul"; and all the records that we accrued that are not according to the divine plan is the soul (lower case) that is dissolved, if that is prayed for to happen, or gets stuck in the astral plane (many levels of lower consciousness, the lowest level some might call hell) creating the spirit (lower case).
WOW! I need to sleep on this. rework it. Not the ultimate answer. I guess that is suppose to be part of the mystery that gives us desire to continue to seek. Writing about multi-dimensional concepts with linear words...is impossible.?
Any input from someone else?
Thank you Misha for putting this new thread up. Was there an easier way than to cut and paste the text into a new thread?
Okay, Misha, my take:
I believe that we are a combination of mind, body and soul. The body is the physically manifest part. The mind is the thinking part. The soul is the immortal part of your self. Only the body is visible.
The Christian Trinity is the super parallel for this, which helps us understand it better.
God in heaven: Mind
Jesus Christ: Body
The Holy Ghost: Soul
Your soul is your superself, and continues. Your body and mind are like your presence in hubpages. We see your smiling photo, which by the way is very nice, and your words. But these need not be the real you. These could be just a virtual identity you assumed. You could be from the Alpha Centauri galaxy for all we know!
I believe that the soul and the spirit are the same.
(Not talking English grammar here, but plain soultalk!)
For myself I like the ideas expressed above. I tried Christianity but it didn't take.
Exclusivity was a problem for one. Taught myself to think using the Tao Da Jing.
Am currently working on a theory concerning all this, but so slow; hope it
doesn't take forever. I have also thought about the father, son and holy ghost, since I also like the idea of a triad. At any rate, I like the inclusion of mind as an aspect. Also spirit in the material life, and soul as some kind of composit.
The problem at the moment is extended memory. I like a logical imperative.
Almost amazing maybe, to see the ideas above, quite in parallel with my own thinking.
The differences between Spirit and Soul .......... The Soul is what is in you ..... making you move as you do, your five senses is your Soul ..... The Spirit is the one that tells you when things are not right....that small voice that we all have a tendency to avoid listening too when we want to do our own thing.... The Father, The Son, And The Holy Ghost...... It is stated in the Bible that "He is in us as We are in Him"...... This is what I believe .... And hope it is understood ... my opinion.....Thxs
I'm going to go for short and sweet:
A soul is the spirit within you. And a spirit is a departed soul.
While mediums and spiritualists sometimes refer to the supposedly departed human beings they "speak" with as "souls" or "spirits" interchangeably, Christian doctrine would tell you that they are not the real souls of the departed talking to the credulous - the real souls reside in Heaven (or purgatory or Hell if you're from a denomination which believes in such things). Rather, they are "spirits", ie of non-human origin, trying to deceive the living for fun or profit.
The top paragraph is from Jenny's(Inspirepub) and the bottom paragraph is mine.
So, the spirit(s) (lowercase), is a false soul according to our entries. This false soul has been called the "ka" by someone (I'll have to go back over my past knowledge base to see where I read about this particular definition of ka)
Anyway, the ka of an individual, gets stuck in the astral planes after death if it is not dissolved by being prayed for to do so. This soul (that which is the records of everything an individual has thought, spoken or done in life that did not meet Eternal standards) becomes the ka after death, unless these soul records are dissolved by prayer. This prayer, cuts free the Soul ([Capitalized]the True/eternal Self), that was connected to the soul records while alive, to go back into the Eternal Oneness.
But the ka, if it has not been prayed for to be dissolved, gets stuck in the astral planes of earth and is used to trick living people into believing it is their i.e. Aunt Suzie or Uncle John, hence these "channelers" that claim to be connecting with their loved one, are really only connecting with the "echo" of the not self of the individual they knew when he/she was alive. But these channelers get people to pay quite a bit to be able to "talk" with the perceived loved one that died. They are in such grief from losing their loved one they want to believe they are really connecting with them to try and relieve their grief. Channelers are charlatans, preying on the grief, right?
It seems to me, that the sacred concept here is for the "allegiance" to be with the Real Soul, and be joyful that that Soul has attained freedom from earthly bonds, and gone into eternity/Oneness. And to ignore the false souls that have become spirits. To perpetuate something that is not sacred is a waste of energy and time as well as money and sanity!?
The only man I ever truly loved died an accidental death. And though several of us that were closest to him saw his "ghost" for several weeks after his funeral; then we never saw it again. When I saw that movie "Ghost" when it first came out and learned all the going into the Light stuff, it dawned on me that is what happened to my lover...he had gone into the Light, and I started my spiritual pursuits learning as much as I could about the mystical of religions to understand what had happened. But because none of us pursued looking to a channeler to maintain contact with the ghost of him, his True Soul component was able to move on into the Light/Oneness. And I assume someone prayed for his soul records to dissolve so his Soul could go where its suppose to go. I wasn't praying then, so I know it wasn't me.
Wow! that brings up a whole lot of other questions to be understood, considering all the knowledge I have taken in over the past twenty three years since his death.
For another night's consideration. One of these days there is going to be a great hub or two coming out of these ponderings.
Good night All!
I think they are the same thing but the spirit is the chemical of the soul, sorta like when people say, she has a free spirit. So what you put out becomes the spirit of your soul. Soul is completely internal. Its like your personal package of life. That thing that makes you do stuff, the thing that keeps hanging on, or is attatched to something. Its attachment...other spirits.
rrrr....secular thinking gets me nowhere, but good question.
Every individual has a soul. The Spirit-Holy Spirit ,Great Spirit is reffered as the supersoul or God.

As some Hubbers have suggested empiricism aka scientific exploration is the only destiny that humans must aim for? Empiricism is tethered solely to materialism and physicalism. But humans as a specie have unique qualities and qualifications that no other...
