If idle hands are the devil's work shop, why...

do some wrong-doers work so gosh-darn hard at their craft?

An idle mind is the entry point for evil ideas and thoughts... After entry, even hard work is possible so that an evil end is achieved smile

Interesting. But I would think an idle mind is also the perfect garden for positive and constructive ideas, too.

I'd say mind that's idle is never good, especially in the context of today's world where we're bombarded with a lot of unhealthy things all through the day.

To me, a funny and interesting one, Bethperry. Thought-provoking, isn't it?
My Teacher used to say that there is no such thing as rest in the spiritual life. There isn't even Saturday and Sunday. He used to say that it is when we take rest, that the forces of frustration and temptation come and we do 'wrong things.'

You have presented us with the opposite. I guess that there is a kind of artistry and infamy even in wrong doing, if the perpetrator is good at it. Again spiritual virtues or 'necessities' are in all things. So the boxer beats up his opponent, but we need the same discipline, motivation, courage and dedication that he uses, for the spiritual life also.

I guess you know your question is a funny one. Perhaps that's why you ask it. From a spiritual standpoint, actions of themselves have no power. What matters is the Heart: Sincerity of purpose, purity of intent ... what matters in action is a live, vibrant awareness of the power of Spirit. (Perhaps that's why we wrote the Robin Hood stories: Steal from the rich, give to the poor)Outside of this, gosh-darn hard work is rather like someone living to a 100 yrs without any ailments. Of what use is this to God if the consciousness is dark?

A very intelligent speculation there, manatita44. Thanks for sharing!

The pleasure is all mine. Still, you gave me the opportunity to elucidate the inner life. At this serene hour, may His Light and protection be with you, now and always.
