I don't mind sensible debate, but I don't like nastiness and insults.

I don't know. Arguments here are like water on a duck's back. I don't think anyone takes them too seriously. I know I've caused some irritation from time to time to people  whose opinions I respect, but they graciously get over it.

If I think I have a valid opposing point I don't see it as an argument. It's a spirited discussion. We're all adults.

Yeah thats how I see it too although it is very common for theists to get offended when their beliefs are questionned and that puts me of questionning them.

Well, I hav noticed that calling people delusional, ignorant, uneducated or indoctrinated does tend to put them on the defensive.

Hey I get the same from theists. I get accused of being brainwashed by scientists and evil modern society. I get called delusional, I get called ignorant and uneducated by theists on a daily basis.

I also get damned to hell, called amoral and evil.

I'm just an all round bad person smile

But I am not 'an all round bad person' ~ and I'm guessing that neither are you smile

Only those shown to be wrong usually get angry.  Christians usually.  My friends--both religious and not--and I have such discussions and learn much by it.  You'd be surprised at how many believers really have no idea where the bible came from.  When they are told they are normally stunned.  yikes

Of course, I'm mired deep in the bible belt so you can't sling a skunk without hitting an indoctrinated baptist up side of the gourd!  lol

I can't imagine what it's like to live in a bible belt. What is it like for someone who is atheist/agnostic/not a Christian?
