Wow, who do you like in religious forumland JWH?
There's loads of nice religious people here. None of them are fundmentalist creationists though
I don't mind sensible debate, but I don't like nastiness and insults.
I don't know. Arguments here are like water on a duck's back. I don't think anyone takes them too seriously. I know I've caused some irritation from time to time to people whose opinions I respect, but they graciously get over it.
I find that if I like the person I dont want to argue with them.
If I think I have a valid opposing point I don't see it as an argument. It's a spirited discussion. We're all adults.
Yeah thats how I see it too although it is very common for theists to get offended when their beliefs are questionned and that puts me of questionning them.
Well, I hav noticed that calling people delusional, ignorant, uneducated or indoctrinated does tend to put them on the defensive.
Hey I get the same from theists. I get accused of being brainwashed by scientists and evil modern society. I get called delusional, I get called ignorant and uneducated by theists on a daily basis.
I also get damned to hell, called amoral and evil.
I'm just an all round bad person
Only those shown to be wrong usually get angry. Christians usually. My friends--both religious and not--and I have such discussions and learn much by it. You'd be surprised at how many believers really have no idea where the bible came from. When they are told they are normally stunned.
Of course, I'm mired deep in the bible belt so you can't sling a skunk without hitting an indoctrinated baptist up side of the gourd!
I can't imagine what it's like to live in a bible belt. What is it like for someone who is atheist/agnostic/not a Christian?

Theists/Atheists: Can you compliment the opposite belief system? If you're a theist, what's something positive you could say about atheists? If you're an atheist, what's something positive you could say about theists? Please no sarcastic or passive-aggressive responses.

Can religion make some lose touch with reality?I'm not asking as an attack or implying all believers are delusional. However I have noticed there are SOME who seem to be really delusional, like they have lost touch with reality while on their quest to find their beliefs. How does this happen and...

Why is it, that some theists insist that you MUST claim to know how the universe came to be? Some claim that being unsure is a bad thing. Why? Others claim that not knowing is a sign of weakness and lack of conviction. How?I had one poster saying that "I dont know" is "not good...

Could narcissism define religious belief? As many theists have stated here, that they, alone, possess the ultimate truth of the universe in the form of a supernatural deity. Is this not a true definition of narcissism. self-absorbed, self-obsessed, conceited, self-centered, self-regarding,...

I have read some articles that suggest Atheists are generally smarter than Theists. Someone shared a link in an Indian Facebook group and Atheists were like; "Theists are dumber because their minds are occupied with fear all the time, and they can't concentrate on studies......." These...
