I have a friend who is into it, so I've watched it a few times, trying to understand. All I see are sweaty people grappling on the floor.
This is NOT a stealth attack on BJJ. I'm not a sporty guy, and, until recently, neither was she. Now BJJ is one of the major passions in her life, I can't ask her, because she is majorly thin-skinned.
So, I ask you: what is it about BJJ that is cool, that I'm missing?

There are many reasons, and different aspects of the art appeal to different people. A simple reason would be that it is fun. The problem lies in the learning curve which can be steep depending on your background.
Once you get over that hurdle there, the world opens up to you, and it becomes a game. BJJ has often been compared to chess there is an inherent element of strategy in its foundation.
There are so many techniques that exist. the fun is in learning techniques that you like, altering those techniques to fit your body type, and then making them work against a resisting opponent.
