Who is the most underrated NFL player, and why?
You can suggest anybody in any position. I will start with Keisel of the Steelers, Atkins of Bengals and so on.
I'd like to suggest Alex Smith, now with the Kansas City Chiefs, who was the 49ers starting quarterback before losing the job to Colin Kaepernick. With a 104.1 QB rating in his 10 games, Smith had a better rating than Kaepernick, although the QB rating doesn't take into account Kaepernick's 400-plus yards rushing. I'm not implying that the 49ers chose the wrong QB, just that Smith is well deserving of his new opportunity with the Chiefs. There's been something of a pipeline from San Francisco to Kansas City. Smith follows the rout of former QBs Steve Bono, Steve DeBerg, Elvis Grbac and Joe Montana.
