From Sports Illustrated comes the next excerpt from the September 21st article; Deion Sanders and Colorado Will Eventually Lose. What Happens Then?

“This Colorado team has become a lightning-fast cultural phenomenon. There is no precedent for it, and there really isn’t a road map for what happens next. This isn’t college football, it’s much more than that. The Buffs are currently the biggest sports story in the United States by any estimation. That’s despite the fact that the NFL has kicked off.

At the center is obviously Deion Sanders. It’s not just fan fervor—it’s hard to have a conversation with coaches, agents or administrators without the conversation inevitably veering into sharing opinions on the Buffs. It’s fully reached your mom who doesn’t follow sports calls to ask you about what’s going on status.

What’s also emerging is the fact that Sanders’s team is one Black Americans can rally around. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a spelling bee champion or an ice dancer—if you are a Black person in this country succeeding in a traditionally white space, many Black Americans will flock to you. Sanders is doing that in a coaching profession at the major college level, which has been far too white for far too long. There are many ways to see yourself in Deion. The most profound one is a Black man who is eminently successful with smooth talk and significant flair. He is succeeding right now with an unapologetically Black persona. At the same time, Sanders has also proved to be all hat and a whole lot of cattle.

For more, another Sports Illustrated article: Deion Sanders, College Football’s Great Disrupter, Is Here to Stay (Sept 17, 2023) There is an interesting interview with him within.

Do you think he and Buffs will beat the odds now at 300-1 to win the National Championship?

    How about the Big-12 Conference?

Are you going to tune into the ABC-televised (ESPN+ too) Colorado v Oregon game Today, Sat, Sept 23, 2023?

Oh No! Defeat did arrive! In fact, they were blown out of the water, 42 - 6!

    From The Athletic arrives:

Colorado football coach Deion Sanders said there were “no excuses” for his team taking its first loss of the season Saturday to Oregon, a 42-6 blowout on the road at Autzen Stadium. Here’s what you need to know:

** Sanders said that Oregon’s coaches “did a good job preparing their team” and “Obviously, we didn’t.” He added: “People around the country will say ‘This is what they needed to humble themselves.’ We weren’t arrogant. We’re confident people. Our confidence offends their insecurity.”

** The Hall of Famer said he was “surprised” the Buffaloes “played like hot garbage.”

** Oregon coach Dan Lanning delivered a passionate pregame speech to his players, saying in part, “They’re fighting for clicks, we’re fighting for wins.” He added after the win that his team remains “hungry to get better.”

** Sanders also said he “keeps receipts” regarding Lanning’s comments: “I don’t say something just to say stuff for a click, despite what some people might say.”

For the complete wrap up story see the article; How Oregon handed Deion Sanders' Colorado team its first loss in blowout
Bo Nix accounted for four touchdowns as the Ducks pulled away 42-6.

Absolutely watched the C v O game because the Oregon coach came from being the defensive coordinator for GEORGIA when we won our first of two national championships. Glad to see him doing well, but wish Sanders' streak had lasted a little longer. Colorado will be back - no doubt!

Cool!! I didn't know Lanning came from Georgia. The SEC is a tough Conference. My loyalties these days are being tested. My dad's family is from the College Station (Bryan), TX. the area where Texas A&M is. Once coached by the infamous Paul 'Bear' Bryant from knee-high to a grasshopper I was a fan along with my dad. When Bryant went to Alabama I followed him while remaining loyal to A&M.

My niece graduated from Auburn last year. So. a new loyalty following and cheering them for the four years before. This year she is attending Ole Miss for her Master's program. Oh No! I am now a fan of them. wink

I know. My son is an avid Georgia Tech fan. He has ruined that "good old-fashioned hate" rivalry for me! Sounds like the SEC is coming to you with Texas and Oklahoma joining next year. At least we are remaining contiguous!

Yes, it did nail it from the sociological aspect hinting at the issue of race. Nothing wrong with that as I see it. The examples of Tiger and Williams sisters were spot on regarding the effects of transitioning from the traditional sense of it being a 'white' person's game in any sport. Yet, when one looks about here and there or remembers recent history it is nothing new really, is it? Sanders just put it front page ruffling some feathers, right?
