Beauty Treatments ~

We all love some pampering and a trip to the beauty spa or beauty salon for our favorite facial, massage treatment, manicure or pedicure.

Be it a weekly, monthly or annual visit to the retreat of a spa, it is a luxury outing that is very easily done at home.

I started my career in Beauty Therapy which enabled me to learn all these different treatments, techniques and applications. I was then that person who continued to have regular or monthly visits to my local salon for facials, waxing, eyelash tinting, back massage and more.

These visits are no longer in my budget as circumstances change. Now I have discovered a wealth of beauty treatments that are so easy to make with fruits, vegetables, oils, nuts, herbs, flowers and an assortment of ingredients lying in our kitchen cupboards.

Apart from that, the benefits to our skin from these natural, chemical and toxin free ingredients, is staggering.

Cutting down on our “beauty spa treatments” does not have to mean cutting out.

Home beauty spa treatments may be used in different ways. For you, for groups in your house, as a gift for a loved one or even turned into a form of income, home treatments make sense on every level.

Cost Saving Spa ~

You will be surprised at how many ingredients are easily turned into amazing facial cleansers, face scrubs, exfoliating masks or excellent skin moisturizers.

Homemade products are a fantastic way of using up fruit, vegetables or herbs if you have some left over or are about to turn.

Do you grow fruit trees and end up with an abundance of citrus fruit or apples?

Have your crop of tomatoes yielded more fruit than you expected or has your Lavender reseeded and spread?

The good news is they may all be turned into the most gorgeous spa treatments.

Here are some of suggestions in different categories, which may be mixed and matched for your chosen needs.

Rose Petals Make Rosewater

Spa Tips ~

  • Decide which treatments you want to try to organize the ingredients in advance.
  • For groups make a list of beauty spa treatments on offer to add to the fun.
  • Always make sure to highlight risks of allergies to groups and make sure they seek medical advice prior to using. They could try a different skin treatment instead.
  • If you are interested in making as gifts, not all skin products will be suitable so double check in recipes first.
  • Maximize ingredients by choosing treatments that an ingredient is used in more than once, particularly if you have to buy it.
  • Above all have fun, give yourself and your partner, friends and family an experience to savour!

Even by offering a family member a pampering session at you "spa" would be a cool gift. For mum, grandmother, sister, daughter etc . . . Thanks so much for taking the interest here, hope you get to give some a try as they are easy, smelldivine and work a treat for a fraction of the cost! Appreciate you sharing on !

      Hi torrilynn,

Thanks so much for visiting! Hope you decide to try a recipe or two out. Spa visits are costly and if a few of you have a spa day or night together you can still have someone do a treatment on you in a relaxing setting and atmosphere. Thanks for the vu!!

What a nicely organized hub! I love the treatments I've tried already, and this is a good reminder to try those I haven't had a chance to yet. I'm especially partial to your recipes that use mango, papaya, jojoba oil or lavender. Thanks!

      Hi Vespa,

It was your index that gave me the idea to do a mini version with this title. We have had to use Exclusive Titles in the AP so picked this. Hopefully you will continue to enjoy the hubs, I love the favorites of yours, particularly Jojoba and Lavender as the other two are expensive imports here in the land known for cold, rainy days . . . not exactly the tropics!! Cheers for your continued suport, you are a star:-)

      Hi Glimmer Twin Fan,

So glad you found this useful. It was a title that popped up in Exclusives and I was thinking of doing something like an index for them anyway. It seemed to be just what I needed so here we are. Some of them (not all) are included now in one place that is a start. Thanks so much for your support as always!!

I looked up some of the cosmetics I have worn for decades in the ewg database. Most of them came back with a 7 or 8 rating. Voted up, awesome, shared and pinned.

Many thanks for your comments, it is so good to know you enjoyed this and hopefully you will get to give a few recipes a go! Using a few ingredients in different ways is cost effective too so for example, olive oil may be used as a cleanser, moisturizer, massage oil, shaving cream and an exfoliator and a really useful ingredient for everyone.

Interesting. I never thought to use excess veggies from the garden to make spa treatments. I'm intrigues by the sugar and tomato scrub. It will be great in August when I have more tomatoes than I know what to do with!

      Hi Deborah,

Thanks for dropping in and leaving a comment. Tomatoes are excellent as a scrub and all you do is dip it in sugar and you are all set to go! It is the quickest scrub ever i think AND works so well. Hopefully you will have a few ideas come tomato season so you will not have any go to waste!! Many thanks for your interest!
