How necessary are high-heeled shoes?
You will definitely agree with the statement that some heels are too high. Are they really essential?
No, they aren't essential. They can make you feel more confident and do wonders for legs, but they are horrible for your feet, ankles, and knees, so they shouldn't be worn that often.
High heel shoes are completely unnecessary. They're damaging and dangerous. The only people who benefit from high heeled shoes are podiatrists and orthopedic surgeons.
They seem to be getting higher and higher. There was a time when you could find a variety in heel heights for women from very flat to about 3 inches with the average dress heel being about 2 to 2-1/2 inches. Now most are 5 to 6 inches and as justmesuzanne said "the only people benefiting are the podiatrists and orthopedic.
I saw a news report where few runway models where falling over because of the shoes..
So, why would they be necessary.

What kind of shirt, jacket, and shoes do you wear with jeggings?

No. I seem to have very weak ankles. Have broken an ankle bone at least once, torn ligaments and had bad sprains-- even when wearing sensible shoes. At this point in my life, I wouldn't dare.
