Time for new hiking boots - what brand/model would you recommend?
My old Merrell ones are coming apart, but they lasted ages and went through hell with me.
Based on that, I thought of getting another pair of Merrells, but discovered that recent online reviews reveal that Merrell's standards have dropped drastically.
I really like Five Tens. They have a wide toe box, which I need and they last quite a long time. I hike often and have probably put 150 hard miles on the pair I got this spring, other than wear on the laces they look pretty good. My brother swears by Vasques, so you might check those out too.
I have some called Trezeta (Italian). I bought these for a trip to Scotland but now have worn them daily for the last 6 years in Brazil. They handle the slopes on sand dunes without any problems. I always feel sure footed in them. They also provide great ankle support as well. Although our temperature is 30 degrees (87F) year round, my feet are always dry and comfortable.

I'm tired of Merrell boots for winter wear and hiking. Any recommendations for light and waterproof?Merrell are nice, but I've found the waterproofing only lasts about 1 year - even the GoreTex models.
