Now you can have apps at your fingertips which can help you figure out how to use your lightbulbs more energy efficiently or track your driving skills to be more fuel efficient.

Green Genie - $0.99 (for iPhone)

If you are absolutely clueless where to start, the Green Genie can be a good place! It is a handy app which contains over 100 projects and tips to go green.

It has been selected by Apple as one of their ‘App Store Essentials’ and as the #1 green app by TechCrunch.

Green Genie has been created by Brad Cracchiola, a Sustainability Engineer at BMW Group DesignWorksUSA. It is built on an open-source platform to enable users submit their green ideas, resources and projects.

Green Fuel is an app which helps you locate alternative fuel stations (currently available for the US only). For those of you, who drive non-traditional cars, finding the already sparse, alternative fuel stations along an unknown route is now a boon, thanks to Green Fuel!

Similarly, the Green-Driver app helps you find over 7000 ethanol (E85 and E100), biodiesel (BD 20+), electric, propane, hydrogen, natural gas and other alternative fuel stations across the USA.

MeterRead is a simple app which helps you track your energy consumption and lower your electricity bills. You can read your meter using your iPhone or iPod touch interface and the app will show you how to use less energy.

MacWorld.com rated the app 4 out of 5 - "MeterRead’s strength is in the calculations it provides. With each reading you record, you get up-to-date stats of your energy use, including an estimate of how many kilowatt hours you’ll burn for the next 30 days. You’ll know at a glance whether your energy-saving activities are on track, or if you need to turn off a few more lights".

CNET news listed MeterRead as one of "five killer apps that can help you pocket extra cash".
