As an owner of a desktop and laptop, I can tell you that the laptop gets more of a workout. Both computers are over their time. The desktop is over ten years old and a little older than the laptop. Both have Windows XP. The difference is the desktop is Windows XP Professional and the Laptop is Windows XP Home Edition. Personally, I prefer the Professional Edition to the Home Edition. With the changes in software and security, soon my Windows XP will need to be updated with a more with the present Windows software. Moreover, with all software updates, they require more memory than the previous version. On top of that, the updated versions will not be compatible to most of my software. I still have software for Windows 95 that is not compatible to my Windows XP.

What Would I Look For in a Laptop

Customize Your PC to Fit Your Needs

With my PCs, I have software that is more powerful than the computers are capable to handle. Like Photoshop where not all the functions are available for me to use, because my computers do not have enough memory nor do they have the right graphics cards. For me, it is a time bomb waiting to explode. I just hope that they both do not die at the same time.

If I were to buy a new computer today, it would be a laptop. Laptops are transportable, less bulky and works great sitting down with it anywhere I want to. Since I work a lot with photography and graphic design, purchasing a computer with a good graphic and video card with enough memory to handle the applications that require my work is the top thing that I would look for in a PC.
