Honestly... If you really want to know how computers work, then read this:
It is VERY detailed, very long, and all in English.
Basically, RAM is Random Access Memory, and requires the computer to be on to be able to store information. RAM takes instructions for the computer, and places it in a 'location' for use in later calculations.
