I can't get on the Internet. I have a Compaq laptop, with Windows Vista Operating system. I...
also use a Windows XP for my desktop. I use my desktop daily. I am about to travel and I need to use my laptop. I can't get on the Intenet with my laptop anymore. I have wireless in my home and I use to be able to get on the Internet with my laptop, but because I am so computer challenged I did something to my computer and now I can't get it to get on the Internet. Occasionally I can get on, but it won't stay connected. Please help, and remember I said that I am computer challenged.
First of all remove any internet security software that could be in trial mode and is expired such as norton internet security or mcaffe.
Second run an antivirus program like avast or avg on it.
Third run malwarebytes
You can get these programs from download.com.
Id say use a computer that can get online to get the progs and transfer them with a usb drive
You could also try running the system restore option, if you have made a configuration change, system restore is good at taking it back to how it was before. You will not lose any data, but anything installed after the restore data will be removed.
If you can remember what you did to your computer, just before you cannot get onto the Internet, it will be helpful. Otherwise, it will be alot of guesswork on what went wrong... it can be countless of things, from viruses to the wireless setup in your laptop. If you can get on and won't stay connected, it may be an issue with your existing setup or the wireless strength of your provider may have deteriorated. It maybe a better deal (and more efficient), if you know of someone within distance and who is not computer challenge, to have a look at it to determine whether it is a setup problem or it is your laptop or other things. Would like to help, but without much information to go on, it will be extremely difficult to even come up with a good guess... Sorry.

So far, I like what I have seen and heard about the new Windows 7. But what do you think? Is it worth all the hype?I thought that I would like XP, but I don't. Will Windows 7 be the cure?

My PC keeps shutting down, I log in, it shuts off. Blue screen with words shuts down before I can even read it. Please don't tell me I'm doomed....my laptop is on its last legs & I do not need the desktop to die. Everything is back up on it so if its doomed, then everything is...

Is it worth upgrading to Windows 10? 7 is offering a free upgrade. What are the pros/cons?I'm not sure I want to take advantage of the offer. Has anyone tried Windows 10 yet? If so, what are your thoughts? I'm comfortable with Windows 7. Does the latest version provide a better user experience?...
