Is solar power to capital expensive?

Can you justify the purcahse of solar power. Does it have an adequate pay back period?

Yes, it is capital intensive.  What you need to look at isn't the payback period with just the solar power, but look at what government incentives you get.  There are numerous incentives available to homes from federal and local governments, especially with the recent stimulus packages.

They're the ones that make the whole industry viable right now - like it or not.

Yes, solar does have an adequate pay back period... however it depends upon where you live, how much sun you get. That being said, it is widely agreed upon that the United States and many other countries will reach grid parity by 2015 - where it will no longer be cost effective to buy power from the UTILITY... case in point, Hawaii has already reached grid parity.
