Should we ever allow computers to gain sentience?

I think it may come as a result from an unintended consequence of programming empathizing and self-cricizing protocals to aid innovation and revision. What might be the implications of a self-aware computer?

    Hello Daniel,
I really do not know enough about such technologies to accurately assess the new level of human deception this could cause.  I can only imagine this technology being used to take more minds away from God, instead of used to righteous purpose.  There is already so much great sickness to accept, evil motives abound and I have no answers regarding my own participation.  As much as I wish I were born of a different era, this is where God put me, and we are here to witness lightning velocity of a technologically distracted society.
Thinking and feeling computers scare the hell out of me.  The last thing mankind needs is one more program to tell us what a lousy species we areā€¦
