Whichever hand you feel comfortable using.
I became left handed when I broke twisted my right arm
I would say genetics is what determines whether a person is left or right handed.
I think genetics plays a big part. I started out left-handed and the practiced with my right hand and now write with either hand. I do many things automatically with my left and also am drawn to do some with my right hand like playing baseball. I throw and bat with my right. My mom was left-handed and my dad was ambidextrous --so who knows if it was learned or inborn.
In some cases it's genetics, though there are some theories that minor brain injuries at or near birth could also cause it, it's just the body's way of compensating. In my case, this latter makes the most sense -- my mom was in labor with me for 28 hours before an emergency C-section when my heart stopped from pressure on the soft spot. I am the only known left-hander in my entire family, and that includes extended family and a couple generations back.
