How can you tell if your email address has been hacked into and messages read?
Particularly interested to know if there is any way of telling that this has happened if the perpetrator doesn't cause any damage such as leaving viruses.
You can usually tell when your password is constantly being changed by someone other than yourself, or you get notifications that another person wants access to your account. If you feel in anyway suspicious about your account, you should always use a password which you believe would be almost impossible to guess.
although you asked 4 years ago... but if you use Gmail, you can check your gmail last activity and they will give you the IP address. It may not help much but if that IP is not yours, so maybe someone sign in your email.
