No, they simply won't be.  The cores tend to run at a slower clock speed, and even middle-end desktops are coming with powerful quad-cores, along with a hefty amount of RAM and sometimes a dedicated graphics card.  If you build computers yourself, smart phones don't come close to the same amount of power.

It's amazing how far they've come, but even tablets tend to be a little more powerful, and they too fall well short of computers.  One could argue at the price differences, but for raw power, it's not even close.

If nvidia and other manufactures stay on course we should have pretty fast and smooth tablets in 2014 with speeds up to 75x faster than the nvidia tegra 2 chips in tablets right now.

The quad-cores out right now for mobile devices are clocked slower compared desktop quad-cores.

For tablets or mobile devices to out perform desktop and laptops the manufactures of these devices will have to put all of there time and money into mobile devices and forget about desktops and laptops for mobile devices to beat them.

Will it happen, Who knows what the focus will be years from now? smile
