Is there a way to save two photos side by side as one photo?

Example. Sometimes I can only have one picture, but I need two. I might want to show an overview of a plant and a close-up of the flower in one shot. I own Photoshop Elements 9 and iPhoto for my iMac, but can't figure out how to make either do what I want. Is there maybe a photo-editing stie on line that will let you join two distinct photos into one side-by-side without making a panorama or print only collage project?

In general, you create two layers in Photoshop... put one picture per layer, then move them until they line up together. Then you "flatten" the layers and export the result as one picture.

I haven't used PS-El in a long time so I can't show you the exact commands. I can do it in Paint.net, but that's a Windows program.

    I use Adobe Illustrator -
    1. Click on file and new
    2. Open a picture on the new page
    3. Go to your pics folder and copy another one
    4. Paste it next to the pic in AI
    5. Select both pics and group them under object
    6.  Then save it under a new name
